Coaches are vital in the lives of our youth. The age group that coaches have the opportunity to impact is the same age group that that youth suicide effects. Because of this, informational materials and programs regarding suicidal thoughts, behaviors and the act of youth suicide can be of meaningful value to coaches.
We believe that athletic department personnel, especially coaches, athletic trainers and academic advisors, notice team members’ behavioral changes and emotional struggles. These changes could be warning signs of suicidal ideation and it’s an opportunity for you to save a life.
Our Coaches resource library consists of articles concerning young people and good mental health. Some of the topics cover general issues that can affect the mental health of a young person and others specifically deal with issues surrounding youth suicide. Since 90% of suicides and suicide attempts are directly related to a mental health issue that has been undiagnosed, untreated or under-treated, it is important to address any mental health issue that can negatively impact a young person.
