Love the comics, but the app needs work. I've been quite happy with the selection of comics. Being able to track down old and hard to find series have been great. However, the main page takes a long time to load and my phone will attempt to close out the app before everything runs smoothly. It's also disappointing that some of the advertised comics arn't able to be downloaded through the app.
Good app Comixology just started selling dark horse comics but I still prefer to read them on this app. The only downside I can find with it and its been an issue for a couple years now... you can't download omnibus collections. You can stream it through the website using wifi or data but you cannot download it. I prefer the layout of DHRA over comixology and it updates easily.
Great content, okay delivery There's an awesome selection of high-quality comics available! On my Galaxy S4, navigating pages is frustrating. I like to read with my phone turned horizontally, scrolling up and down as necessary. The page turns if I even slightly scroll towards the right, and I can't go back a page without tapping the screen and using the navigation bar. I'd be happier reading with a normal PDF viewer, but the convenience of buying issues in-app makes up for this.
Getting worse - let us transfer to Comixology This app has always been a little slow and clunky, but it seems to be getting worse. Before you ask, I have reinstalled several times. Load times are very slow. Sometimes pages don't load at all and I have to keep going back and forth to get them to load. Also, it crashes often. Comixology has issues, too, but in general it works smoother. Now that Dark Horse is on their app, we should be allowed to sync our purchases with them, the way Marvel does.
Easy to use Simple to use, a breeze to find what im looking for-especially old issues/series and complete graphic novels. I still think digital versions are over priced in many cases but that's a separate issue (especially since there are some good deals to find). I'm happy with the functionality of the app, as it has good visibility, fast load times (on average), and provides ease of use/personal convenience. I do wish there were previews though-it would be helpful, especially if you're browsing &/or looking for something new. I also would love a wish list - with books, I tend to mark everything I want to read then buy a few at a time. Without a list, I have to use my notepad, try to remember(never happens) or buy them all at once (also never happens, as I would be broke).
Works well but let-down by DRM (copyright protection). This looks great & works well, with the ability to choose between a traditional view and a "panel" view on-the-fly. Unfortunately, unlike most of comiXology's catalog, Dark Horse Comics is let-down by the DRM (digital rights management - copyright protection) and digital comics can only be read using this application or via a Web browser - it would be fantastic to see Dark Horse Comics embrace DRM-free (no copyright protection) comics in Comic Book Archive formats, like comiXology does via its Web site...
CAUTION UPDATING to 1.3.14 from 1.3.10 or older:
** Some devices require a reboot before the app will recognize an SD card.
** In rare cases a clean reinstall may be necessary.
1.3.14 fixes a bug in the reader on high resolution screens
* Support SD cards on all devices
* Fix bugs in low resolution devices:
—— large images failed to load
—— resuming book loads darkness and sadness rather than a page
