Set Round A Square
Explore the lives and times of the great figures memorialised by sculpture in Glasgow's George Square through music. Listen to specially commissioned music from Sally Beamish, one of Britain’s leading contemporary composers, as it evokes the history, public, and private lives of some of the most famous, and some of the less well known characters of the past two hundred years. This free app brings together music, public art and history in an interactive tour which sheds new light on the city’s busiest urban space. The music can be played anywhere, but is best enjoyed in George Square itself where a walk from statue to statue is transformed into a moving musical experience. The app allows you to actively select sections of music relating to your location and, depending on the capabilities of your mobile device, can automatically transition to reflect your location as you move.
Created with the support of Creative Scotland’s Public Art Research and Development fund, the app is a collaboration between Sally Beamish, Paul Wilson and the Digital Design Studio at the Glasgow School of Art.
