Awesome - These features should be built into android The persistent auto orientation is extremely useful. I use my phone with a kickstand and bluetooth keyboard to respond to email. It's a huge pain that the home screen doesn't orient itself in landscape when the phone is turned (especially considering it does this with tablets). Your awesome, light, free app has made my phone infinitely more usable in this scenario. I would pay for this app.
Amazing, other developers should follow this guy's lead! Works exactly as advertised, takes next to no space, doesn't run anything futile in the background. Even works on apps that do not natively support the chosen orientation (my main reason for downloading the app). Also works fantastic for automatic rotation control for in-car use in combination with e.g. Tasker.
Very useful and part of my regular phone usage The gyroscope broke on my phone so auto rotation no longer works. I use this app to manually adjust the screen orientation. I use it on the pie controls from the LMT launcher for quick access when I need it. This is useful for things like navigation (e.g., Waze) where I want landscape for my car dock and portrait for handheld navigation. With this app, locking the orientation is very useful and now preferable for my phone. I fixed my gyroscope and I still use this app daily. Thanks for this!
Could be better. I liked the fact that I can now rotate the homescreen on my Sasumung galaxy s5, the stock ROM settings disallowed this very feature, maybe a safety concern not wanting drivers to use their phone in portrait mode. The reason I rated four stars was because it does not scale and resize some widgets properly, and the lockscreen wallpaper does not scale properly.
Works well for what it does: you run the app and chose a mode to override your device's built-in screen orientation/rotation setting to switch among Auto-Rotate, Forced-Portrait, and Forced-Landscape. I say "forced" because it forces apps to landscape or portrait even if they wouldn't normally (regardless of native setting) rotate to that orientation. Setting this to Auto-Rotate changes the appearance of the native setting to show Auto-Rotate, and setting it to either of the other modes changes the native setting to show Portrait (even if it's really landscape). While this app is in (forced)-portrait or (forced-)landscape, changing the native setting itself directly has no effect unfortunately. Lacks a Forced-Auto-Rotate mode which would force all (or some) apps to auto-rotate even if they won't normally do that. It would be nice if there were a notification to show that this app is forcing a particular mode, and it would be nice if the the mode could be changed via this persistent notification. Also lacks any per-app setting capabilities. Has a simple Tasker plugin for automation of its 3 basic modes.
Great but buggy I like this app a lot but have some annoying bugs which prevents me from leaving it running in the background. Using a Xperia Z3c running 4.4.4 the camera is unusable as it doesn't auto rotate and remains locked in portrait mode. I run this when using in car as a navigation and music playing device and for this it works a peach. Android should be designed with landscape homescreen in mind. Perhaps the tablet and phone software ought to merge...
+ Expose to Google TV
+Added a footer note to the menu
+Added a widget to lock into whatever your orientation happens to be at the time of click. This is useful for reverse landscape for example.
+Short click on portrait/auto will behave like default android portrait/auto. If you want to enforce "auto" long press on it (that way, even the apps that don't go into landscape will).
+Added ability to run a persistent background service for both Portrait and Auto modes.
