A good dictionary depends on all definitions and not just one less commonly use definition and not on bells and whistles and a flashy interface which has very limited resources in terms of defining words. I don't mean to sound strident but look up the word strident and you only get one definition, and loud, raucous and grating sounds should be the second definition not the only definition.A dictionaries function is to presents all definitions of a word, not be the most fancy app with the most features. Word of the day means nothing if the words definition is limited or incomplete. You can get a better definition if you Google it. You may call me strident, but I don't think you would because you don't know what it means. Operatic is another one you missed the ball on. I have no faith in this any longer. okay Google give me more and varied definitions. usually it would be the second usage, or the obvious which no one would bother to look up if it was obvious so I would look for a second definition as the person most likely isn't looking for that childish 1st explanation.
Please add a tab for complexity of the words. Also fix the autofill feature. When I finish typing a word, it makes me have to wait for the app to complete previous autofills. For example I look up for the word "example" and when I'm done typing "example", the app still generates an autofill list for the word "e", "ex" or "exa" or.. It is supposed to skip all of them and instantly come to the final version, i.e., "example".
The definitions need to be written differently using commonly spoken terms. Loyalty to the spoken language communicates deeper to the readers. Especially foreigners. When an expert explains something impossible for the common person to understand he looks smart to them. But to another expert he looks stupid, doing something only to be proud.
PLEASE ALLOW COPYING OF TEXT! When I hear a word I don't know I add its definition into a flashcard app I've installed. But even though I have all of your paid content I must do a Google search for a definition I can copy and then paste onto a flashcard. Obviously this is a problem across Office apps, too.
Don't understand how or why the premium version contains far LESS words than the free version?! Plenty of words, not particularly obscure, that were available on my old version are no longer to be found on the new one. Also, unless I did something wrong, the premium version downloads as a separate app, rather than upgrading the existing one, so all my saved favourite words are gone. Disappointing...
I love this app. Getting a word every day helps to build my vocabulary. One irritation: every time I post a link to the word of the day for words I want to share, the thumbnail shows the previous word. The link works, but the thumbnail doesn't fit what I'm describing.
