Greatly improved Many bugs not all features work wx depiction is exaggerated can't lock screen sd card memory crashes app very disappointed in Garmin all other Garmin products are top notch they are dropping the ball with this one. Update: 4/15/16 they have fixed most problems except for wx depiction. Did have to get an iPad to have all the features. Update: 10/17/16 They do continue to improve has been very stable. Support is to notch.
Base subscription great for VFR I have not tried the more advanced, premium-subscription features, but what you get for the base price is more than adequate for VFR flight. Highly customizable map display, good on a smartphone but really shines on a tablet. The ability to check weather, TFRs, NOTAMS, etc and make/file flight plans from home or on the go is a huge convenience. Overall, the increased situational awareness I get from this app's real-time info makes me a safer pilot, and that alone is worth the money in my book.
Very useful but too many bugs. A lot of pilots I work with use Foreflight but almost no one had any experience with Garmin Pilot so I borrowed an iPad and decided to compare the two. After spending a week using and flying with each I decided to go with GP because the interface was nicer and it offered almost identical functionality at a cheaper subscription price. Unfortunately, after buying a Tab S2, I realised that GP for android is riddled with bugs, freezes regularly and very unreliable.
Keeping Current This looks excellent. I'm going to try it for 30 days. I'm not a licensed pilot, but a student that had to drop out right before the dual X-Country stage. Due to the economy. But I use simulators and teach myself ground school. I can't seem to find much for Android. MS-flight sim 4 is excellent for a PC. I want to practice and it doesn't have to be certified for actual use in the air. Just like everything else in aviation, it costs more because it has to be FAA legal. I can't afford the subscription rates.
Switching from ForeFlight so I can use on iPad and Android phone as backup. Cross platform syncing and easy sync with 650/750 units in the planes I fly.. also cheaper by 50 per year as of now.. ForeFlight is great but Apple only is a deal breaker.
$200/year - no thank you!
