Located in the very heart of Toulouse, the Musée des Augustins houses a collection of paintings and sculptures dating from the Middle Ages up until the early 20th century. The museum buildings surround the medieval cloister of the former Monastery of the Augustines. The museum was founded in 1793, one of the very first museums in France, it opened shortly after the Louvre. Today, over seven hundred works are exhibited here. The application “Masterpieces at the Musée des Augustins” is a short tour of 20 masterpieces from Toulouse’s museum of fine art. It includes a general introduction to the unusual history of the museum along with the audio and written commentary of the works, which are reproduced full screen, with zooming possibility too see the details of the masterspeices.
