We have the dropcam 720p version of the camera that we use as a baby monitor. I like the idea of the system and it's mostly reliable, but this app has some problems. When you get some types of notifications or a phone call, the audio stream is broken going back to the app. The only way to reconnect it is to go back to the camera select screen and reselect the camera. In fact that's the theme with this app. If it stops working for any reason, you have to back out of the stream and reselect the camera. So it's not great if you are having transient problems with the internet or whatever. You may wake up and find the app just spinning. Not monitoring the kid. Strangely, the Nest app does a good job reconnecting to the stream if it loses it, but it usually decides to back out of the camera view on it's own (regardless whether it's plugged in) and then the phone goes to sleep. This makes it totally useless. I'm going to go give that app a 1-star review now. This all makes Dropcam/Nestcam very hard to recommend, especially for $200.
Great exper w dropcam, not nest app I bought dropcams couple of years ago. Always signed up for reco service online. Don't mind paying their recording options are fabulous. It is continuous record. On mobile app you get more segmented recording but if you go to the laptop you can see pretty much continuous recording. Tried to switch to Nestcams but could not get them to work so my experiences only with dropcams not sold any more. But i use the dropcam app because of all of the complaints from nest users.
Should have warned us dropcam! This nest company really sucks. still waiting on the 1080p upgrade that I'm sure won't see the light of day!. At best , nest should have given us vouchers to keep the Customer happy and showing positive transparency, seeing how the new nest cam cost the same as the obviously outdated dropcam pro. I would never recommend this product to anyone nor would i ever buy anymore cameras from nest until they can make it right by moving along and offering us vouchers for the new cameras and upgrading their service.
Terrible Ever since nest acquired drop cam from google it has become absolutely unusable. I think it gets worse every day. From constantly "loading" to just plain not working absolutely ANY other wifi camera would be better. My only recommendation is to run from this as fast as you can. It is a complete waste of your money and will only drive you insane.
Major geofencing issues Ever since upgrading to Android 6.0, this app can't tell if I'm home or away based on my location. When home, I'll get constant notifications bouncing back and forth between "see you soon" and "welcome back." The location aware setting is now completely useless. Tried on Nexus 5, Nexus 9, Nexus 5X (but only one at a time).
Poor auto location The auto on/off with location is almost useless. Camera turns on while I'm home, is off sometimes when I'm out. Dropcam being Nest being Google... This should be better with geo fencing. Could also use intentional android wear support.
