Excellent design and usability The only thing I'm missing is a calendar which shows me in which days I practiced like all the habit builder apps have. Another feature I would like to see would be the option to add friends and kind of have a competition in between each other - for example I want to be able to add a friend and when we're learning the same language I get a live notification when he is practicing so I get motivated too.
Really good at first but app no longer works I was really enjoying duolingo (alongside grammar books) and since starting have been completing lessons everyday. I was on a 93 day streak and then the app stopped working and said that I was offline. I updated it as I didn't want to lose my streak. I did this and the app is working but has not stored any of my lessons from the past 3 days and therefore the streak is back on 0 days and I have to repeat lessons. It has meant that I have lost enthusiasm and motivation.
Five stars Tried many times in school and with various programs to learn a language. I have an excellent visual memory; learned to read and write French pretty well at one time but never could I understand, interpret the audio..conversational ability was non existant. For 30 yrs I was that person, "I can't learn new languages, not for me." This program is perfect and I look forward to opening it everyday! I spent 20min/day the last few weeks and I'm beginning to 'think' in the language! Thank you so much Duolingo!
A very good program but stops short of being excellent I speak several languages and need to upgrade a few. Duolingo is far superior to Mango, offering as much Freedom or hand-holding as you need. It lets you back if you are weak in an area. But I would like to see two changes before giving it 5 stars. First a simple vocabulary list, growing as you learn, containing both singular and plurals, and using masculine, feminine, and neutral forms. My spelling needs work. Secondly, a series of conjugation drills would be priceless. Otherwise an excellent app.
Amazingly simple, simply amazing The only thing I could complain about is that the sentences sometimes make no sense at all. However, the app is so well made that you actually remember what you've been learning from the start because they are smart enough to regularly make you re-use the vocabulary and stuff... I would give the app 8 out of 5 :-)
Great, very useful Very good for trying to learn a new language. I love using it, why then 4 stars and not five? Lack of explanation for the cases. I'm using ot for German and it doesn't stop to explain why the cases on words change, but corrects it when you use the wrong one. I know from previous language classes why but for those who have never taken a case language it can cause a lot of confusion.
