Writing haiku poetry is a fun way to increase creative thought and exercise your brain. The Share Haiku application encourages users to create haiku poetry in English and share it with others around the world.
Users can view haiku shared by others and rate them according to personal taste and conformance to the rules of writing haiku. Traditional Japanese haiku was generally restricted to topics or themes based on nature. The popularity of haiku written in English however, has opened doors to poetry expressing many other topics or themes. The Share Haiku application currently allows authors to select from 30 different topics when sharing a poem.
The rules for writing haiku can be simple (a good place to start for children and beginners) or more advanced writers may wish to use more complex rules in order to increase the difficulty of the creative process. Share Haiku will allow all these forms of expression but every poem should stick to some very simple guidelines.
Simple Guidelines For Creating Share Haiku Poetry
* Every poem should be written in the English language.
* Haiku poems must contain no more than 17 syllables.
* Haiku must contain 3 lines.
* The first line must contain no more than 5 syllables.
* The second line must contain no more than 7 syllables.
* The third line must contain no more than 5 syllables.
* Haiku poems do not have to rhyme.
* Share Haiku poetry must have a topic.
So that’s it! I hope writing haiku in English will be educational and useful to all students of the English language.
