Latest version appears to have a major regression. After downloading the weekly edition for offline audio playback I require an internet connection to start listening to each article. Hardly what I would call offline :-) and not very compatible with a phone in airplane mode. In general I have always found the app quite slow to start so I waste a minute every day when starting my bike commute as I wait to be able to tap "play". The app is also not particularly reactive to taps on pause button.

Horrible replacement for a good app that did not need one. The legacy app allowed quick, multiple downloads and reading all downloaded content offline. Then the Economist ruined it with repeated popups directing me to the new app and logging me out of the legacy app (so it cannot be read offline anymore). The new app will only download one edition at a time, slowly, and every time I open the new app all the editions I've already downloaded have erased themselves and require downloading again.

Love the content, have subscribed for decades. I'm still disappointed in the new app audio compared to the legacy app, it was much easier to create a queue of what I wanted to listen to. Then the new app had that feature, briefly, but since I updated it, I can only listen to the entire magazine in order, or nothing. I prefer to choose which articles and in which order. It finally arrived, and then left.
