[Besshi Copper Mine's last mining headquarters]
Besshi Copper Mine, located in Niihama City, Ehime Prefecture, is considered one of the three largest copper mines in Japan, and was excavated along a vein using an outcrop discovered at an altitude of 1,200 meters in 1690 (Genroku 3). The center of mining gradually moved down to the foothills, and from 1930 (Showa 5) until 1973 (Showa 48), when the mine was closed, the last mining headquarters was located in the Hatanade area.

Currently, the Hatabai area is crowded with tourists due to the roadside station "Minetopia Besshi" and tourist mines, and is also home to the former Hatabai Hydroelectric Power Plant, which greatly contributed to the modernization of the Besshi Copper Mine, as well as the Hatabai Railway Bridge, There are many industrial heritage sites, including registered tangible cultural properties such as the Hashiden Tunnel.
This AR app lets you see details such as the steam locomotive running on the lower line of the Besshi Mining Railway, which is the main artery of the Besshi Copper Mine, and the Pelton water turbine that rotated at a high speed of 600 revolutions per minute at the former Hatashiri Hydroelectric Power Plant. We will dynamically recreate the scenes from the past in the participating districts.
