Description: Nowadays, habitat and environmental monitoring represent a class of native geo apps over web app applications with significant potential benefits for scientific communities and society as a whole. These tools can be used to make available natural habitats of wild flora and fauna species information's and promotion of their conservation status, management and restoration, established under the article 17 of the Directive 92/43/EEC – commonly known as the “Habitats Directive”. Instrumenting natural spaces with online services can enable long-term data collection at scales and resolutions difficult to obtain.
The main objective of the “Mohana” app, owned by the European Commission under the EUPL licence, is to contribute to the monitoring of Natura 2000 habitats and protection of biodiversity. The “Mohana” app allows users to capture the location of a feature, record information about it and even attach a photo taken with a mobile device. All observations will be submitted to the Mohana GeoForm, online hosted layers according with the INSPIRE Data Specification on Habitats, Biotopes and Species Distribution.
Code and programming development: The Native App Code was developed by the "Mohana" Developer on the AppStudio for ArcGIS source code editing environment, Qt Creator and QML considering the Esri's QML API.
The Web Mapping Application was developed considering the custom widgets and themes for Web AppBuilder provided by ESRI. The widget "Query" was customized by the "Mohana" Developer.
Acess and Use Constraints: All research data collected as part of this project will be made available through GEOSS as Full and Open Datasets. The information collected from users (Mohana GeoForm) follows the national legislation with respect to data protection.
Privacy-relevant Android permissions requested by Mohana app:
Used for permissions that are associated with accessing camera or capturing images/video from the device.
This permission allows this application to capture the user’s photos about Natura 2000 habitats and species in order for them to be viewed in a timeline within this application.
Used for permissions that are associated with capturing GPS location from the device.
This permission allows this application to capture the user’s locations about Natura 2000 habitats and species in order for them to be viewed within this application.
