IOM was designed to answer the challenges associated with meeting new people in crowded or nightlife scenes. Venues are often dark and loud making initial introductions difficult. When places are packed, it is physically impossible to see, much less meet other people on the opposite side of the venue. Additionally, when there are groups of friends socializing together, one cannot know whether a person is single or taken; or if they are seeking new friends.
That’s where IOM comes in. The concept behind IOM is the following: IOM uses geo-location technology allowing users to “check in” to their favorite hot spots and see who’s there. Each user creates a profile where they can upload four (4) of their favorite pictures including an option to take a picture of what they are wearing that night to be recognized. Along with these pictures, users can provide limited information to those viewing their profile inside the venue. If a person is interested in talking to someone who has checked in, they “send a drink” where the recipient has the option to accept or deny the invitation. If denied (or unanswered in 20 min), the drink goes back to the sender. If accepted, IOM matches the parties and allows them to message back in forth to coordinate a formal introduction. IOM is a live, real-time social network that uses technology to promote face-to-face social interaction.
