There is something to be found between waking and dreaming. It can gyrate and flicker, flash up in your mind or whisk away at your brain. It can narrate to the point and walk the line or pulverize the sapidity agents of conventional cinema in the form of splendid trash. It is the other side of cinema: The short film. It teaches the cinema to fly again. And we just love being its runway for yet another week, from June 3 to June 9 with more than 300 films from all over the world, all genres and in all cinematic languages. There'll be five competitions, six special programmes and many additional screenings in the cinemas, under the night sky, in the KurzFilmKlause and at the NoBudget Hotel
In order to do justice to the enormous diversity of contemporary short film production, our selection panels screened over 6.000 submissions from more than 70 countries. From those, they selected over 200 films for the International, German, Hamburg, NoBudget and Three Minute Quickie Competition.
For this year’s festival edition we have selected a program for you with more than 220 international productions – a cross-section of the 2013/2014-vintage of international film from more than 3,000 entered short- and feature-length films as well as the best of numerous other festivals we attended. The best possible compliment for our unpaid work would be you taking part in our filmic journey around the world in large numbers. Lean back and relax in the comfy seats of Caligari FilmBühne, and Murnau Filmtheater, or come to the iconic Kulturpalast, let the films take you to other worlds and cultures, and experience the audience favorites of other festivals.
About 500 films, 50 programmes, 6 competitions, international guests and festivals, close-ups and wide-angle views, ShortFriday, project presentations, concerts, parties! interfilm’s goal is to search out skilled and creative filmmakers and bring their work together - presenting them in an international, culturally political framework in order to best facilitate the exchange of imaginative ideas. interfilm offers a wide variety of short live-action, animation and documentaries to enthusiastic audiences who value the short film format in its own right.
