Great for finding train times, a nightmare to buy tickets on. It only grudgingly works with smart cards, which is the big new thing scotrail is trying to push. Forces you to login every time you want to add a ticket to smart card. Just not a smooth experience. I had to read the FAQ to figure out how to get it to use the smart card. In Hong Kong you swipe you ticket at the station you join at and at the station you get off at. It then bills your card. Why can't we figure out this future technology in the UK? I realise this idea may not be a good fit for the UK but travel should be this convenient. Hong Kong has had this for 10 years by the way.
Whilst this app is useful and generally good for providing up to date departure times etc. it is an absolute horror to use to buy weekly season tickets on. I have tried several times on separate occasions to purchase a weekly ticket using the app and it has never successfully completed a transaction. I am usually required to step outside the app and simply log on to my account using a web browser and even that process is more troublesome than it ought to be. If I was Scotrail, I'd be asking for my money back from whoever "designed" this app's functionality.
Time table with live updates is great. Smart card reader only partially works. It can get the card ID but can't retrieve the details. I have a 3rd party reader (Rambus) which reads details in 1-2 seconds so know that the issue is not with my Huawei P9
Much improved after recent updates. Platform numbers show up more often, NFC features are good, live departures had info before announcement at my local station. Getting better and better. Seamless purchase of season tickets next....(there's a bug on website that reverts back to credit card after every subsequent selection)
Fine if you want to check train times, but if you're trying to buy season tickets it's terrible. Clicking on 'buy tickets' doesn't take you to buy tickets, just the top of the page. If you want to buy season tickets you are taken to the website only to be asked to log in again! Better off just buying at the station.
Uninstalled and reinstalled twice on 7.1.1 I tried to log in by selecting myscotrail from the menu on the LHS. Immediately I get the message 'username and password incorrect' but I haven't typed in anything. When I do try to type in my username and password I get the same message. Seems pointless if users can't log in. Would really like to be able to use this app for my commute but can't.
- Improvements and bug fixes
In the last release:
- Check and load tickets onto a ScotRail Smartcard direct from the app
If your device supports NFC (Near Field Communication), you can now use the ScotRail app to load ScotRail Smart tickets and products onto a ScotRail Smartcard from around four hours after purchase.
This update requires permission to access NFC and external storage on the device. Please accept these permissions if prompted.
