Ailey Extension was founded to continue Alvin Ailey’s legacy that “dance came from the people and should be delivered back to the people” by offering open classes for people of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels taught by world-renowned instructors. Classes are offered seven days a week online and at the Ailey Studios in a wide range of dance and fitness techniques—from modern and ballet to street styles and Pilates. Experience the Ailey legacy in a welcoming, non-competitive environment.
Ailey Extension is located at The Joan Weill Center for Dance at 405 W. 55th Street in Midtown Manhattan. This beautiful glass-encased building—the largest building dedicated to dance in New York City—is home to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and houses 16 climate-controlled studios with sprung floors and state-of-the-art acoustics. Located in New York City's midtown west area, the Ailey Studios are easily accessible by public transportation.
The Ailey Extension app makes it easy for you to browse upcoming classes, learn more about our instructors, purchase class packages, sign up on the go, and manage your account, all from the convenience of your phone.
