The origins of Yoga may date back to pre-vedic Indian traditions. Several seals discovered at Indus Valley Civilization sites (also known as the Harappan Civilization or the Indus Sarasvati Civilization, flourished from 3300 B.C. to 1800 B.C.) depict figures in positions resembling a common yoga or meditation pose. The earliest, more formal accounts of yoga-practices are in the Buddhist Nikayas. Parallel developments were recorded around 400 CE in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, which combines pre–philosophical speculations and diverse ascetic practices of the first millennium BCE with Samkhya-philosophy. Hatha yoga emerged from tantra by the turn of the first millenniu.
