Haven't tested it out yet, but looks promising. Will try it out soon.
I love this app. I have always wondered if there was a way to buy items that stores were planning to throw out anyway. I feel good that I am buying items I want, while cutting down on waste. Everything is so cheap too!! ♡
Flashfood is awesome because they take pictures of the items that are being sold on the day and it really helps because you can actually see the product you are thinking of buying at the discounted price. Also the price ranges for the items are very reasonable. This app makes it easy to purchase the items and head over to the store to pick them up.
I love this app! It is so easy to check as often as you like to see what is available nearby. Need inspiration for dinner no problem check out the deals and save big all because something is soon to expire. Helping your budget and the environment should always be this easy!
Usually, supermarkets do not want to reduce the price of foods that will soon expire because they fear that customers will just wait till the price drops to purchase. Flashfood eliminates this issue because the general public will not be aware of this, and hence will continue paying full price. However, there are many flaws with the system right now. First, there aren't enough stores to make it worthwhile for flashfoods. Second, since their isn't much selection of goods, I sometimes end up with only a 50 cent purchase. Of which 31 cents goes to the credit card processing company, which means that flashfoods and the supermarket are losing money. Third, the app is very glitchy; I constantly add an item to cart, yet when I go to checkout it says cart is empty. Supermarkets should consider putting food that will expire in a week or so, rather than wait for last day or 2, especially in the case of larger items. I do not believe that this company will remain in business for long because all of the associated costs to the supermarket will put them in the negative at times. It is very likely that flashfoods is offering no fees as a promotion to sign supermarkets up, but once that is done, supermarkets may not sign up. Credit card processing fees are 30 cents per transaction + 3% of total transaction. Then add the cost of running the specially marked flashfoods fridge and checkout tablet. The highest cost however is the additional labour. Having an employee take pictures, insert expiry dates and discount the items one by one is very time consuming. If done properly, it should take 2 minutes. And an additional 3 minutes are required to check out the flashfoods customer. That's a total of 5 minutes of labour. That's 1$ at minimum wage. A farm boy sandwich is 1.5$ on the app. Knock of 1$ for employee wages, another 35 cents for the credit card company. That leaves 15 cents to cover sandwich cost and flashfood fees.
Love this app! Great groceries for cheap and keeps perfectly good food from going into the trash! It would be more awesome if they had more locations available.
