# Description

This RF Engineering Tools app is a compilation of calculators and converters that can assist the typical RF designer, university student, professor and other members of the RF community in the execution of a variety of design and analysis activities.

The calculator list includes a PCB microstrip impedance calculator and both cascaded 3rd order intercept point and cascaded noise figure analyses of multi-stage RF designs calculators.

The converter list includes a common length conversion tool, a dBm-to-watts/watts-to-dBm tool and a polar-to-rectangular/rectangular-to-polar converter.

Would like to see more microstrip options.... Pretty basic compared to some simple web apps out there. But do appreciate that what is implemented is smooth and slick....

## Aviation RF Link

The program Aviation RF Link allows quick calculation of the forward link from a ground station to an aircraft. Based on the RF power of the ground station, the tool calculates the distance with a given field strength to be achieved at the aircraft antenna or calculates the field strength at a given power and distance to the aircraft.

The tool calculates the path loss based on line-of-sight (LOS) conditions and does not take into account multipath propagation on the ground.

In addition to the RF path, the tool calculates the radio horizon based on the given height of the aircraft and the ground station. If the calculated LOS is lower than the distance that can be achieved with the given radio conditions, this is indicated by a red dot on the LOS tab. In this case, the radio horizon is the limiting factor and not the RF link budget.

The line of sight is calculated in accordance with ICAO Annex 10 Vol. V.

The default for the antenna gain of 2.14 dBi corresponds to an omni directional antenna.

The default for the field strength of 75 uV/m corresponds to the ICAO recommendation for minimum reception at the aircraft antenna.

Quick start

To start calculation, just select a row by touching it and change a specific value.

After touching the "Return" button, the dependent values are calculated automatically.

If any value other than distance is changed, the distance is recalculated. If distance is changed, the field strength is recalculated.

If you change a unit, the corresponding numerical values are converted. For example: 1 mW yields 0 dBm if the unit is changed from mW to dBm. Also conversion between feet and meters, and between nautical miles and kilometers is performed.

Root Tools allows you to customize the app and make it your own. You can change the entire look of it through theme settings in the main settings menu. Troubleshooting:

Boot animation install problems??

1) Try going into Root Tools settings (click menu > settings) and set the install location manually. (most phones use "/data/local/bootanimation.zip" or "/system/media/bootanimation.zip"

2) You may have a bad download. Try removing the file on your sdcard in the roottools folder.

## Engineering Design Toolbox

Small Psychrometric calculator to help aid in every day calculations for the HVAC designer. Calculations are based on ASHRAE formulas. I am hoping to expand this into a much more robust toolbox that will encompass more engineering disciplines. I also have a modulus calculator that i find handy when evenly splitting CFM to diffusers.

If you have any issues please contact me and i will do my best to correct them. This is my first app, and i do consider it to be a BETA release. I have not been able to test on many devices. However all functions should work.

## Sensor Fusion Toolbox

Sensor Fusion is a process by which data from several different sensors are "fused" to compute something more than could be determined by any one sensor alone. An example is computing the orientation of a device in three dimensional space. That data might then be used to alter the perspective presented by a 3-D GUI or game.

This educational application by Freescale Semiconductor teaches you about sensor fusion and lets you experiment with various fusion options. It does not REQUIRE that your Android device use Freescale sensors. It is compatible with the Freescale Sensor Fusion Library for Kinetis MCUs. Compatible hardware and embedded software are available at http://www.freescale.com/sensorfusion.

The application also supports the Avnet Wi-Go module paired with a Freescale Freedom board (see www.em.avnet.com/wi-go for details). When used without a development board, this app just lets you experiment with what you already have on your Android device.
