Walked gover 20 k pinning photoes and walk time. Opened the app the following day and all my hard work was gone. This is not acceptable for a very expensive App.
Updated after 16 months of use. About location tracking - it works only if location service is set to "high accuracy" mode on your device. Mobile data can be turned off to prevent data usage. If you save a track, it is a kmz file, but the app does not help you view it later. Try Google Earth or another app to view these files for your hiking history. The app gives you an up-to-date map of the entire Bruce Trail system - with re-routes and new trails included. I use it to ensure that I am on the trail, and to help me get back on track when I deviate. The app has received absolutely zero enhancement since introduction, remaining primitive in hike planning and tracking functionality.
I would give 5 stars if the app were reliable So often it stops recording , and then resumes much later in the hike .. my guess is that relies on cell availability which it should not for GPS recording. And most of the time the app seems to freeze when starting but it eventually comes back to life. Such a shame .. having current maps and being able to confirm you are in the right area would be so great.
Measuring function needs work Dropping pins to measure distance is an exercise in frustration. Seem to have to press 10 times to get pin placed and then it's not exactly where you wanted it. Measuring is a 4 step process which seems inefficient... Select ruler... Place pin 1... Place pin 2...click measure again.
The colour of the side trails, now in blue, should be a different colour, say magenta, because it is confusing with the creeks which are also in blue. The font size for the side trail labels are too large.
Recording function does not work reliably when vegetation is heavy. Power consumption high to support GPS. Distance measuring function difficult to use on Samsung Galaxy 6S.
- Improvements to track recording
- Improvements to performance
