About the Vatican Observatory and the Vatican Observatory Foundation
Almost four centuries ago, the Vatican established the Vatican Observatory (Specola
Vaticana) as a historical research and educational institution supported by the Holy See, with an emphasis on scientific research and discovery. Originally based in the Tower of the Winds within the Vatican in Rome, the Vatican Observatory is now headquartered at the summer residence of the Pope and a nearby convent in Castel Gandolfo, Italy. Here, at one of the principal sites of the Vatican, a short distance from Vatican City, is one of the oldest research institutions in the world, a place where grandeur combines with faith and tradition to create a center of discovery. The
Vatican Observatory Foundation was established to provide financial support for of the Vatican Observatory's mission of discovery: cutting-edge scientific research and education conducted by the Vatican Observatory and maintenance of the Vatican Observatory's state-of-the-art telescope facilities.

A new prayer session is produced every day of the working week and one session for the weekend. It is not a 'Thought for the Day', a sermon or a bible-study, but rather a framework for your own prayer. It is founded in Ignatian Spirituality and uses the imagination to enter more deeply into prayer.
Lasting between ten and thirteen minutes, it combines music, scripture and some questions for reflection.
Our aim is to help you to:
*become more aware of God's presence in your life
*listen to and reflect on God's word
*grow in your relationship with God
It is produced by Jesuit Media Initiatives, with material written by a number of Jesuits, both in Britain and further afield, and other experts in the spirituality of St Ignatius of Loyola. Although the content is different every day, it keeps to the same basic format.

Our resident and commuter students come from more than 30 states and represent more than 20 denominations. The faculty—the heart of the educational experience at PTS –continues in a tradition of academic strength, publication, and commitment to the church. A low faculty-to-student ratio encourages interaction that provides for mentoring relationships with professors. Our faculty is devoted to the scholarly, professional, and personal preparation of men and women for Christian service in the church.

On January 22 our nation will mark the 42nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal throughout pregnancy in the U.S.
Since that tragic decision, more than 56 million children's lives have been lost to abortion, and many suffer that loss -- often in silence.
Join the bishops' novena for life with thousands of Catholics across the country who are coming together in prayer for a "culture of life" from Saturday, January 17 - Sunday, January 25!
