It can be very handy when you travel abroad, eat ethnic food, have lunch with foreigners ... or in general every time you need a fast translation from a food dictionary.
The database includes ca. 900 terms related to international cuisine and ca. 600 words from the Japanese, Chinese, Indian and Mexican cuisines. The database is downloaded onto your device: no need for an internet connection.
And, if you want to know more about the word you have just searched, you can easily connect to Wikipedia from within the App and get automatically its description. All steps are intuitive and quick to carry out: no unnecessary frills nor time-wasting tasks!
And it's much more than just a dictionary. In-depth entries for all the important words offer background, with descriptions of what's in a dish, where it came from, what goes good with it and who does it best. With so many regional styles and specialities, Italian cooking can be awfully mystifying (we've found some twenty words for chanterelle mushrooms), but this app will help you sort out the local peculiarities as well as the hundreds of varieties of cheeses, charcuterie, fish, pasta shapes and the rest.
The Menu Decoder is an education in everything Italian in a fun, accessible form. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned Italophile, it is bound to increase your enjoyment and appreciation of one of the world's great cuisines. Buon appetito!
—over 1900 major entries for the most important dishes and other terms; more than 3500 photos
—special lists of cookware and tableware words, cuts of meat, cheese and wine terms and other topics
—links to food sites, blogs and recipes, and to Italian food festivals
—sortable by type of food, or geographical region
—take it to the market and learn what you're looking at
—use it to decipher real Italian recipes from the web
—lists DOC foods, and local specialities in the Slow Food 'Ark of Taste'
In the future, free, periodic updates will make the Italian Menu Decoder even better and more complete. It's a bottomless subject—make sure to drop us a line (you can do so directly on the app) if you find anything we have missed!
★ About the Authors ★
Dana Facaros and Michael Pauls are the authors of twenty-six Cadogan Guides covering every town and region of Italy. They started back in 1986, bringing up their children in an Umbrian village while exploring the country. Italy soon had its way with them, turning them (and the children) into hopeless, unrepentant foodies. In their travels, they always enjoyed taking notes on regional specialities and obscure delights, and these became the basis of this app.

If not, the searching area can be enlarged. The GPS coordinates shall lead you exactly where the „roast pork” or the “mojito” cocktail is.
The application has also a section of „Advanced search” where the user find various useful information. The can choose to search a particular dish depending on its „ingredients” (For instance, I want to eat a dish containing boar meat or deer meat, duck and so on). The best cultures and backgrounds make Thailand an interesting and memorable country to visit. More people visit Thailand than any other country in Southeast Asia. This is no surprise as the Royal Kingdom of Thailand has much to offer for the visitor: historic culture, lively arts, beautiful beaches, a good nightlife, friendly and hospitable people and last but not least one of the best cuisines in the world. Travel in Thailand is easy due to a good network of trains, buses and airplanes. Most visitors enter the country via the Southeast Asian travel hub Bangkok, the City of Angels. From there you can do great daytrips to cities like the former capital Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi , known for the River Kwai bridge. Popular beach islands include Koh Samui and Phuket Island. Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand is popular for Thai culture and scenary.
From there most visitors head either north or south. In the north you can visit the interesting cities of Sukhothai , Chiang Mai, Chiang mai Tour operator , Chiang Rai or Mae Hong Son . The north is known for its fantastic trekking possibilities, the interesting hill tribes, and its gentle Lanna culture. In recent year Chiang Mai has become a center for learning. With class available in such things as Thai culture like Thai massage, Thai cooking, fruit carving, meditation, yoga and now even the age old art of elephant husbandry (mahout training), silversmithing and even Thai Language.
