I've used Getaround several times. They hit you with hidden fees without any due process or investigation. The car I picked up was smelly and poorly maintained - but to make things worse Getaround hit me with a $250 smoking fee when I don't even smoke. Suggest you use Zipcar, or Lyft/Uber, or Silvercar instead
I'm a car lover and a gear head(car enthusiast) over the last several years I have rented regularly from Getaround. In the crowded San Francisco city environment I have regularly been able to rent an incredible quality and variety of vehicles. Iv'e rented, Porsche BMW Mercedes Range Rover Tesla I drive manual, and was amazed to find the variety and quality of vehicles available. I have had several issues with the cars that I have rented over the years, as you might facilitating the rental of other peoples used cars. I have always found Getaround support accessible and communicative. You've earned my respect and business as a renter and I'm happy that you've managed to earn the trust of so many car owners. This is an absolutely incredible app and I love having it in the universe.
A lot of these reviews are about the service not the app. I've been renting my car for six months so I can say the app is mostly good. The ux is poor as the options are haphazardly thrown into a sidebar making nav difficult but what you need is there. The service is good but requires more work than you'd think as a provider. Most renters are great but need some coaching. Getaround helps when people don't fill up which is often I've found. Communication should happen in app but doesn't. Feels very beta but they're building something necessary.
Unbelievably not secure system for identification. After several reservations, their system all of a sudden demanded photo ID verification (AFTER I'd made another reservation, which it promptly canceled). I tried to submit my ID using their desktop third-party verification tool and it failed to submit anything twice (but never sent me any communication that it failed). Their support team didn't read a word of my emails for help, and simply kept insisting I send a photo of my ID (to live in their Zendesk system forever). In fact, based on a convo with a rep, that third-party tool is set up to create Zendesk tickets with the photos anyway, which makes me wonder what the hell it's for. This is amateur at best and risky at worst. Infuriating support experience and they've now lost out on a $1,000 reservation I was trying to make. Terrible.
This app was great for renting cars for several months. THEN they add a charge automatically for being under 25 years old. The reason I used this app was because I couldnt rent cars because Im under 25. THANKS ALOT
I have no idea how the service works cuz there arnt any cars ANYWHERE in Chicago. I searched downtown, the inner city, the suburbs, even "dangerous" parts jus to see. Nothing anywhere, why do yal even advertise in Chicago. Hyre car has alot of members here, its more expensive than it leads on tho, thats y i tried yal but yal have nothing here.
