The app isn't bad, but they've spent over two days doing their "approval" process and keep sending the same automated email over and over even though they've been sent the requested info numerous times. Beyond frustrated and sticking to zip car from here on out.

It has lots of bugs which never seem to get fixed. Reliance on a touch screen as your car key when it's raining becomes a problem. The back-end infrastructure supporting location based services, i.e. locating the car so it can be unlocked, is spotty at best. Lots of potential but to much friction.

Man, I really love the idea to rent cars from others. And in practice, it can work well! But boy does their interface SUCK! it's incredibly difficult to navigate, hard to search, and impossible to filter results. I can't sort listings at all, not by distance or price. It's the basic stuff that cripple the ability to find a car I want to rent. However, once it works and I slog through it, I've had better experiences

I have most up to date app version. Overall I've had great experiences with getaround over the past two years. On recent trips over the past couple months I keep getting any error that my inspection couldn't be submitted. Clicking on the notification just takes me to the app with no additional info about the error.

Update April 2017 PLEASE FIX THE INSPECTION PHOTO UPLOAD. It fails most of the time. I've been using this for 9 months in Chicago and it's very reliable, convenient, affordable, and the customer service is great.

Please be careful using this service! There is no way to view in the app how much they are/have charged to your account! They can charge you in fees without advanced notice, and from my experience the fees are not always correct, story below. I was charged in error 127 miles x 5$ for going over the milage allotment(227 miles in 12 hours in San Francisco they claimed...). I called support and they said to email instead and they would look into it although they did not see any errors. Called the owner of the car and he confirmed they had charged me in error and reached out to getaround to dispute the charge. A day later I called in again to dispute the charge and again was told I was wrong. Eventually they seceded and saw that I was correct but the support person that took the owners call was on vacation so they did not get it communicated. Meanwhile there is no way to track their charges outside of looking at my bank account.

Thanks in advance for the help! Man, I really love the idea to rent cars from others. And in practice, it can work well! Owner claimed a falsehood. No one ever clarified anything with me. The scanning face did not work as it should after submitting all required documents the app failed to upload encrypted documents.
My first rental was just as I expected. There were no issues or problems. I'll rent again as needed. I love the idea of getting any type of type of car that I desire at anytime that I want.
Likely most recent update but the app continues to ask me for account verification when I book a trip. My ID is still in place and it says I don't have Internet access when I do try to upload it again through the prompt. I've tried on 4G and Wi-Fi, hoping it's not a phishing scam that infiltrated the app with the last update.
Works great. App is super smooth and I love having access to the exact kind of car I need for my errand or adventure. I've used it dozens of times with no issues.
The new app shuts down as I try to book the car. The previous one would shut down when I tried to upload photos. Please get it together Getaround!
Grear app yea i had issues with it at first but once thats over with its smooth sailing guys. Just pay attention to the details in the car the app dose ask you any damages, etc. So answer the question and take that minute while the car warms up to check the car take pictures.
As an ex-Facebook-user, I'm trying to determine if there's any way to log in again. Great app and business otherwise.
When I was trying to enter location, I got the pop up - "You have exceeded the daily quota for this API" . Wasn't able to proceed.So uninstalled.
Couple rented my car to have sex. Now have to clean jizz from back seat.
The date picker seems to be buggy. Can't select today at 12pm for some reason

Hi Johan — Sorry to hear about your issues with the date picker on the app. Would you be able to send us a quick note with the steps to reproduce this issue? Please keep in mind that the app will not let you select a time that has already passed (even by just a few minutes). I rent my car through Getaround and I love the service. But I have had to redownload this app multiple times because it won't connect to my car.
Not as cheap as a car rental for anything but errands. But HELLA convenient is you're on a tight SKEDGE.. or no SKEDGE at all.
Improve the performance of app. Your brand new search is not working at all.😋

Hi Aniruddha — Sorry to hear that you're having problems with the app! Can you briefly describe the issues with the search functionality? We'd like to troubleshoot this so we can get it resolved ASAP! Be advised. If you're involved in a collision and not at fault, Getaround's feckless, lazy insurer will drop the ball, concede that you're liable, and charge you $1,000. Even legacy car rental companies offer supplemental collision insurance, but Getaround does not. Probably because they want to screw you with hidden insurance costs even in cases where you're not at fault. Frankly it reeks of collusion by Getaround's insurer. Why would they fight to absolve you of liability when they hide a $1,000 insurance fee in their ToS?

I've used Getaround several times. They hit you with hidden fees without any due process or investigation. The car I picked up was smelly and poorly maintained - but to make things worse Getaround hit me with a $250 smoking fee when I don't even smoke. Suggest you use Zipcar, or Lyft/Uber, or Silvercar instead
I miss city car share A LOT! Why can i only login with Facebook all of a sudden? Also I can't unlock any card from the app I have to do that from the website . But the website does not have a map you can only enter an address which does not seem to work correctly. Shouldn't this be easier? Takes far to long to get anything done. What I the point of showing cars that are 1000 miles away I ask? Yet I can't see a map through the site on a browser on my phone?
I'm a car lover and a gear head(car enthusiast) over the last several years I have rented regularly from Getaround. In the crowded San Francisco city environment I have regularly been able to rent an incredible quality and variety of vehicles. Iv'e rented, Porsche BMW Mercedes Range Rover Tesla I drive manual, and was amazed to find the variety and quality of vehicles available. I have had several issues with the cars that I have rented over the years, as you might facilitating the rental of other peoples used cars. I have always found Getaround support accessible and communicative. You've earned my respect and business as a renter and I'm happy that you've managed to earn the trust of so many car owners. This is an absolutely incredible app and I love having it in the universe.
A lot of these reviews are about the service not the app. I've been renting my car for six months so I can say the app is mostly good. The ux is poor as the options are haphazardly thrown into a sidebar making nav difficult but what you need is there. The service is good but requires more work than you'd think as a provider. Most renters are great but need some coaching. Getaround helps when people don't fill up which is often I've found. Communication should happen in app but doesn't. Feels very beta but they're building something necessary.
I rented three cars at once, and after the rental period, getaround banned my account because i allowed other people beside myself to drive the cars. If they dont want me doing that, why does the app allow me to rent 3 cars at once?
Fine print allows for fraud. Too many loopholes for them to charge you for 'damages'. Convenient, but the risks are not worth it. $1000 for some surface scratches that were not present when we dropped off the car? Would not trust.
Unbelievably not secure system for identification. After several reservations, their system all of a sudden demanded photo ID verification (AFTER I'd made another reservation, which it promptly canceled). I tried to submit my ID using their desktop third-party verification tool and it failed to submit anything twice (but never sent me any communication that it failed). Their support team didn't read a word of my emails for help, and simply kept insisting I send a photo of my ID (to live in their Zendesk system forever). In fact, based on a convo with a rep, that third-party tool is set up to create Zendesk tickets with the photos anyway, which makes me wonder what the hell it's for. This is amateur at best and risky at worst. Infuriating support experience and they've now lost out on a $1,000 reservation I was trying to make. Terrible.
This app sucks. Very unresponsive and would not allow me to upload my documents to verify identity. Would not recommend.

If you're able to reply to our email titled "Verify your account" with the information requested, we'll get your account set up as soon as possible! This app was great for renting cars for several months. THEN they add a charge automatically for being under 25 years old. The reason I used this app was because I couldnt rent cars because Im under 25. THANKS ALOT
Two weekend in a row I reserved a car on get around to take a trip. Both weekends it was cancelled last minute. Once because the car was broken the other time for seemingly no reason. If my reservation is meaningless what's the point? I'll stick to renting cars
I have no idea how the service works cuz there arnt any cars ANYWHERE in Chicago. I searched downtown, the inner city, the suburbs, even "dangerous" parts jus to see. Nothing anywhere, why do yal even advertise in Chicago. Hyre car has alot of members here, its more expensive than it leads on tho, thats y i tried yal but yal have nothing here.
This app is really nice and you can get a car for low cost to drive around city whenever and wherever you want!
Only allows Facebook login. Since I don't have Facebook I'm unable to use this.

Hi Cory — We have several authentication checkpoints to verify each member, and because Facebook is one of these checks, we require our renters to have an account at this time. We require access to some basic profile information but rest assured that we'll never post any content or display any of your information without your explicit permission. App is great! Being able to lock and unlock a car from your phone is pretty amazing.
I'd give 5 stars except the search never loads for my city. It ALWAYS loads for SF.
