The app isn't bad, but they've spent over two days doing their "approval" process and keep sending the same automated email over and over even though they've been sent the requested info numerous times. Beyond frustrated and sticking to zip car from here on out.
It has lots of bugs which never seem to get fixed. Reliance on a touch screen as your car key when it's raining becomes a problem. The back-end infrastructure supporting location based services, i.e. locating the car so it can be unlocked, is spotty at best. Lots of potential but to much friction.
Man, I really love the idea to rent cars from others. And in practice, it can work well! But boy does their interface SUCK! it's incredibly difficult to navigate, hard to search, and impossible to filter results. I can't sort listings at all, not by distance or price. It's the basic stuff that cripple the ability to find a car I want to rent. However, once it works and I slog through it, I've had better experiences
Likely most recent update but the app continues to ask me for account verification when I book a trip. My ID is still in place and it says I don't have Internet access when I do try to upload it again through the prompt. I've tried on 4G and Wi-Fi, hoping it's not a phishing scam that infiltrated the app with the last update.
Update April 2017 PLEASE FIX THE INSPECTION PHOTO UPLOAD. It fails most of the time. I've been using this for 9 months in Chicago and it's very reliable, convenient, affordable, and the customer service is great.
Please be careful using this service! There is no way to view in the app how much they are/have charged to your account! They can charge you in fees without advanced notice, and from my experience the fees are not always correct, story below. I was charged in error 127 miles x 5$ for going over the milage allotment(227 miles in 12 hours in San Francisco they claimed...). I called support and they said to email instead and they would look into it although they did not see any errors. Called the owner of the car and he confirmed they had charged me in error and reached out to getaround to dispute the charge. A day later I called in again to dispute the charge and again was told I was wrong. Eventually they seceded and saw that I was correct but the support person that took the owners call was on vacation so they did not get it communicated. Meanwhile there is no way to track their charges outside of looking at my bank account.
