Great app with a lot of buts. C'mon Google, if you want me to try Allo, get off your rear and pitch it to me! Add better features, improved sticker designs neatly categorised and funny packs that actually are appropriate for conversations and force install Allo in all things running Android via a software update! Until then, nobody cares. Oh, and how about a feature to respond to individual texts in a conversation, like WhatsApp and Hike messenger do?
The app is ok, but the stickers and smileys are simply awful. You have to be some kind of a douchebag hipster to like these stickers, and the other ones seem to be specifically designed for Indian market. There is only 1 sticker pack which I find okay to use. And default Android smileys are... well... ugly. Other than that, it is the same messaging app as Telegram, WhatsApp or Viber. Oh, you can change the font size also, and it has the AI assistant.
Few suggestions/things missing: bold/italics, auto translate, different colour bubble per person in group chat, Photo/video should be sent in its original size rather than compressed, photo head under last read by/time stamp. Live animated messages (confetti/fireworks/wrapped "gift" when message pressed ect), clean up the tool bar with a single 'attach' icon that expands to all features (inc yesno/polls/ect) there's too many emoji/sticker search buttons & Majorly needs SMS/Desktop integration to complete!
Feels a bit cluttered and battery usage is high while the app is open compared to hangouts. Hangouts still the best.
Nice messenger. Shame that rich messaging isn't compatible with SMS, but hardly Google's fault. It's just nice that it can be used for regular SMS now.
I'm still waiting for SMS. This is unusable to me until then.
