It works really well for messaging my friends I talk to most as they have allo installed but it would be so much better and I'm not the only one who thinks this is if the SMS contacts bit would let you contact them but have it come through the normal thread on there phone and Allo on mine. Cause now it goes through there phone as a weird 5 digit number and it took me ages to figure out why and everything.
Useless app. It's looks and works well (add optional timestamps to messages?, but... Did you aware, that you have Hangouts with 1kkk installs and 3kk reviews? New functionality not working on old phones? There is a solution. Simple integrate all existing hangouts to your Allo chats. This way, those who use new app, gain new abilities. Those, who use old phones, still able to communicate with old contacts with same instrument. Also, web-client of Hangouts easily support all new Allo features. Just merge this 2 products, never split your community.
This app is a good replacement for SMS, the assistant is a great addition, stickers and gifs are cool. With that being said, it falls way short of being an iMessage competitor. The read receipts don't tell you when the person read the message. The themes all seem childish. I wish I can turn off the reply suggestions. I wish I could share my location indefinitely. I wish every photo shared in the convo doesn't have to save to my photo album in order to just view it. I don't understand what Google is doing with this app but it definitely has soooooo much room for improvement and it still makes me wish I had iMessage as a former iPhone user.
Best experience I have from an IM, so much fun. But very few people are actively using this. Google really needs to integrate all their one million IM in to one. If Google is keeping it's style, Allo will follow Google wave and others. Changed to 1 star because of the battery drain. No idea why it keeps camera on.
Yet again, Google creates a beautiful app full of great features, but then ruins it with broken core functionality. It should be able to properly replace the standard messaging app and handle SMS in a normal way (like iMessage). Otherwise it's just another superfluous messaging app. And let's face it: everyone already used WhatsApp. The only way it can compete is if it becomes the stock Android messaging app, and it won't do that if it doesn't properly support SMS to any phone.
This messaging app is great, and I honestly think it could take on iMessage except for one thing: the SMS messages to someone who doesn't have allo are terrible. They send from some random number through Google like spam and the other person cannot reply. If this could send SMS messages like imessage, it would be my favorite messaging app on any platform.
