Missing the ability to use from more than one device such as my tablet or desktop. Can't use without SMS number tied try account. @google is the only assistant so far. No @notifications for users. Can't edit messages after they're sent. Won't upload images from links like imgur. No Wear integration (update: 2.0 added some functions). Incognito chats are not in the same chat but are a new chat. Doesn't offer anything new that isn't already done by the main competitor. On the positive side we can at least remove people from group hangouts. SMS fallback is nice but not worth it for being tied to one device.
Now it's a better app to use. With the introduction of file sharing service in this version of Google Allo, it is now a messaging service to use. The only thing I find is that there is no cloud-sync/chat backup option and no support for multiple devices. The two attractions of the app are Google Assistant which is really handy and the smart reply feature which is very useful. And, this app should have been exclusive for Android users.
This is an amazing app now. It was bad at first but now it has come a long way. Now you can share any file format, location, stickers, etc. With the Google assistant and smart replies I think that this is the perfect replacement for whatsapp. The upcoming desktop client is gonna make it better. The only disadvantage is the small userbase. Hope that it expands soon. Hence 4★
I really love it. It's feature filled, smooth, and overall fun to use. The automatic responses are really cool. My only complaints would be (coming from hangouts) that there isn't a desktop or web client, and that all media gets saved to an image folder instead of a temp directory/being cached.
Not an adequate replacement for Hangouts. Hopefully you will integrate this so I can use on my laptop similar to Hangouts. That was why I love Hangouts so much, it is available across all my devices. Also if you uninstall and reinstall the program none of your previous conversations are saved, which seems silly.
For this app to be truly great, there needs to be some additions. Firstly, it needs SMS integration. This would then reduce the need to use another app to text. Secondly, it needs integration with Duo for it to truly compete with Apple's iMessage. Thirdly, it needs a web or desktop client, just like iMessage. Lastly, it needs to have the dialler integrated with it. This will provide a seamless experience. If these additions are not fulfilled, it will become just another messaging app with no real world use.
