Great app with a lot of buts. C'mon Google, if you want me to try Allo, get off your rear and pitch it to me! Add better features, improved sticker designs neatly categorised and funny packs that actually are appropriate for conversations and force install Allo in all things running Android via a software update! Until then, nobody cares. Oh, and how about a feature to respond to individual texts in a conversation, like WhatsApp and Hike messenger do?
Pretty good! Cross-platform, feature-rich, and it's a Google product! One caveat - no desktop client. That's somewhat disappointing. I'd love an official Allo desktop client! For the moment, I'm not even able to find a GitHub workaround, but even a web "wrapper" would be nice! I have hopes Google will implement this in the future - else, I might have to stay with Hangouts, as much as I like and want to use Allo.
our family uses it; overall, I prefer it to SMS, but would rather it incorporate SMS natively so I have one-window messaging. also, why can't I get Google Assistant to send messages via Allo? only handles SMS and Hangout...weird. Go all in, Google, or I have to conclude this is another 'experiment' (talk, hangouts, duo, Allo...what does it all mean?)
I like the app but I wish Google would commit to one message app. This is great but I wish you could also just sned regular SMS messages to people who don't have Allo. I love the stickers and the way it integrates the assistant. I also don't like how it has to save gifs and pictures in order to view them.
Very early days, hope it gets better. What Allo lacks against Whatsapp isn't a big deal but smart reply & Google assistant is a potential giant killer, Whatsapp has to fear about. Add basic Whatsapp features like last seen, online, profile pic & status updates that'll do for now. UI looks modern & refreshing Whatsapp will have a real proper competition. Save calling features & desktop interface for later. Allo is here to stay & push Whatsapp if proper updates given.
How can you break Hangouts before having a viable competitor to iMessage ready to go? A year later, still nothing. This is a boneheaded move and makes me embarrassed that I chose Android over iPhone.
