Missing the ability to use from more than one device such as my tablet or desktop. Can't use without SMS number tied try account. @google is the only assistant so far. No @notifications for users. Can't edit messages after they're sent. Won't upload images from links like imgur. No Wear integration (update: 2.0 added some functions). Incognito chats are not in the same chat but are a new chat. Doesn't offer anything new that isn't already done by the main competitor. On the positive side we can at least remove people from group hangouts. SMS fallback is nice but not worth it for being tied to one device.

Has potential but really, at this stage of the game is there a point to another messaging app? Especially considering how many messaging apps Google wants you to have (3? 4? More?) Combine Allo with Messages (ie add SMS to Allo) and this is easily a 5 star app. As it is, most people aren't switching to Allo; there's just no real reason to (I couldn't get my wife to even try it).

Moved over to Allo from Hangouts with the last update. Love it's new and quickly released features. Saw this release has hands-free messaging using Ok Google. Can't seem to get that to work. The only thing that will make this a 5 star app is the final release of the desktop (web) client. Again, love the work and whimsey being done and introduced to Allo.

Good messaging app, possibly even the best I've used. Clean and easy without bloat and good features. Unfortunately it's unlikely to matter because no one's using it and no one's using it because there isn't a good enough reason to, why bother downloading yet another messaging app if it doesn't simplify things at all. SMS and you're good to go. Also the odd way it deals with non allo users is often annoying and too much like spam.

I really want to like this but it's hard to get apple users to sign up. It's nice being able to chat quicker and send uncompressed media etc but it is not going to win over apple message lovers any time soon, and that is what Android needs to put the nail in the coffin. I also don't like seeing the splash page when I open the app. Just take me right into it.

I love the stickers and chat bots, and the app is very beautiful. But certain features are lacking (true sms support, a web client, conversation preservation across devices, etc.), so I have to withhold at least one star. Edit: I forgot to mention that while the app sends pictures and videos in really high quality, the in-app camera is pretty terrible, especially when compared to the wonderful native camera on my Nexus 6p.

Nice thing but no one knows about it u have to make ad .that's marketing right that will helps to improvise in all terms. Many people don't even know about the allow and duo they just use marketed whatapp there's nothing on WhatsApp. I pleased that pls make ad for ur apps and products that will increase ur worth in market

I love the idea of this, however, because texting is still so fundamental, all you have to do is support SMS and bring the features from Android Messages to Allo and done! You have a product people won't be able to live without. But currently, people are too invested in Hangouts, and Android Messages, or iMessage. Also, why is there a disconnect from Allo's Google Assistant and the one that's built into my phone?

Good app. Nice and clean interface. But many features missing like file sharing, google voice. Google Assistant is nice though far away from perfection. I chatted with a friend without even writing a word myself... expecting more features very soon. This product will also disappear if Google failed to match WhatsApp quickly.

Just another app which no one in the states will use due to lack of SMS integration. Whoever thought this was a good app to okay must not have listened to anything the android community had been asking for Edit: App is better but now have crazy battery drain bugs. 4 updates later and the issue still exists.

So here's the deal. I like Allo. I just hate the fact that Google has looked at Allo as just another one of its many messaging apps that few will ever use. Does it have full end to end encryption like iMessage? Nope, not unless you do incognito mode. Does it have SMS integration? Nope. Does it work on multiple devices? Nope. Does it have a desktop client? Nope. Does it solve Android messaging problems that keep people using iOS just to keep iMessage? Nope. So, we are still in the same place as before.

For the love of God and all things good PLEASE make this the default SMS app for Android. This app is SO AWESOME yet SO LIMITED. If this was somehow combined with Duo then iMessage would be a thing of the past. I always thought that Google had "smart" people working on Android apps but this makes me wonder. It's brutally obvious what needs to happen with this app. Allo+Duo = iMessage 💀

It's the Android equivalent of Messaging for iOS. I just wish Google would add SMS support, web-based Allo and set Allo as the default messaging app for all Android devices from here on out. Getting someone to switch to another messaging app can be tedious if not impossible which leaves a lot of people with an app that's virtually useless with no one to message.

I'd love for a better SMS relay experience. I'd like to see better fluid animations in the app when chatting. It feels a little jarring. Love the link previews! Integrated Google duo icon, a desktop client would be nice, and I think images should be included in a bubble with rounded corners.

Allo is amazing! The best messaging app ever. The themes are awesome and the GIF support is fun. Voice to text works really well. My only complaint is that no one's using it yet! Also, I recommend downloading Google keyboard and using the two apps in conjunction. Its so much less frustrating than other keyboards.

Seriously, how does this app STILL not support sms??? Its pretty much useless because nobody is going out of their way to download it solely for the FEW people who actually use it. Such a waste of a otherwise decent chat app. Google really can't be that blind to ignore the sms issue can they?

still no SMS integration so need multiple apps for friends who have no need for this app (iPhone users). Should not download every multimedia message that is sent automatically to my phone. Still waiting for a unified app from Google to handle all my messaging. Apple and Facebook have done it

This app is honestly great, but it's irrelevant. It should be competing with iMessage and allow Android users to replace the main SMS app with Allo, however it's instead competing with WhatsApp. Please make it so this can be set as the default SMS app that automatically knows when a user has Allo and starts sending read receipts and such. It would be much more useful!

App design is great! Simplified look with fun color combinations. The app runs smooth as butter and is a pleasure using. Recently, updates have been coming fast and I enjoy watching this app evolve. Can't wait for the web app to be released, but I would also like to see multiple device support so multiple phones and tablets can also be used. Unlike others, I see the problems with SMS fallback, but would still like to see RCS with SMS fallback in separate threads from Allo messages. I also believe that themes should be for your device only and shouldn't change for everyone in the conversation. Not everyone in a conversation likes to use the same theme. Other people changing the theme can be annoying and it would be more useful to be able to personally change the theme for each chat to help identify which chat I'm in.

It's fabulous.... I just wish the other Google texting app could merge...and I wish Android would drop the other Messengers and allow you to use Google Allo as default message app.... If it did that maybe I could send and receive messages without asking someone to download the app....That sucks...plus I have a watch and would like pair it but it will not send me notifications.... This app is Absolutely the best and under utilized....Google needs to do something to bring recognition to it like they have with "ok Google"...

I just wanted an app to send SMS since hangouts is doing away with SMS support. This app seemed OK, but then I realized that when I send someone a message it prompted them to install the app. I just want a good SMS app that is compatible with others phones, not one that requires everyone to have the same app. So annoying!!!!!

When sending an audio message the quality is nothing in comparison that you get on IOS. I don't understand given that this is a Google application why this should be the case. Can we please have a higher quality of audio on the Android version please. If so I will give the application 5

This is one main drawback of the app over Whatsapp and such others. A backup can't be made in any manner possible. I have lost mine more than once because of reinstallation of the application. Edit: Backup is there now. Hence the revised rating. Also this new automated avatar stickers. Best.

Has changed so much since it came out nearly a year ago. I would use this as my primary texting app if more people had it but I'm recommending it to all of my friends! Would love GIF integration though. Keep it up!

My biggest concern is the inability to change the background. I have an OLED display and I like to have a dark background to save battery because I spend a lot of time texting and it significantly impacts my battery, besides the default background is too bright, it hurts my eyes at night. Can't make calls and Google assistant is not very useful either, it's fun, so I've used it a few times, buy I don't see myself using it regularly. Although I really like the stickers and reply suggestions.

The concept is nice, downloaded it to try it all, but the interface is just too damn crowded. No way to disable the suggestion reply, too much thing going on. Please make it cleaner and instead of launching two billion apps as allo, android message, duo, hangouts and etc. merge them! Make ONE GOOD app and simplify everyone's life.

Gave it a try again! It's great in its own way. I keep looking for WhatsApp similarities but I should stop. The one thing though- I would love for pictures shared to be smaller rather than taking the width of the screen.

A. Unlike WhatsApp, I am unable to tag or reply to a specific text,. B. I am unable to forward multiple texts from within a conversation to other Allo conversations that I am engaged in. C. I am unable to share or forward PA search result or suggestions with multiple Allo groups and recipients. D. I'm unable to share a file or a link or a text or a picture or a video with multiple groups and recipients within Allo simultaneously. PA is good. But the chat features and functionality of Allo are rubbish!!

Pointless. Would be 5 star if you could use as main sms msm. I don't mind the different apps google has but only being able to use them if the other user has the app? Just garbage then. Here's a idea for google then....make another email app....that only other users can that have it can receive your emails. I just dont understand the benefit of it these days. I dont use Facebook messenger as my default text app....but I appreciate that option. They got that spot on. Still... I do like Allo... When I use it to talk to the one person I know that has it.

App is wonderful, if any of my contacts use it. I only have 2 contacts using it so to me it's pretty useless. It was awesome using though! But now it's just taking up space so I have to uninstall :( I really wish they would change it to be able to use with all my contacts.

Non Starter. It's just another unneeded messaging app. It sort of has a way to message a person without the app installed, but the messages come through from a random, unexpected number. I tried a test run with people without the app and it was incredibly confusing to them. I'm not going to go through the hassle of explaining to everyone I communicate with that I have multiple numbers, some are text-only, some are actually groups. I would love this thing if the sms-fallback message came from my phone #

I've been using Allo since the day it first launched. But I have to say, with no SMS support the only people I've gotten to switch over are my sister and girlfriend. The rest refuse. And on top of that, the option to not save every single piece of media you send or receive is fake, it doesn't turn off. If I take a screenshot of my phone and send it to someone, it automatically downloads again to my phone. Not only is that a major glitch that hasn't been solved in over half a year, it's a huge let down. Im deleting this app. (Also, I get the diversity thing, but why the hell are 2/3rds of the stickers in other languages I don't speak. I want to use them, for the love of God translate them.)

Insufficient for my sms purposes. Too catoony and doesn't appear to be a real application or tool. Most of the default settings were counterintuitive or wrong. I'm fine with a bit of flash or kitsch, but when the assistant says, off the bat, that it can send my friends location information when the phone doesn't even have the GPS turned on... not cool. Uninstall.

If only I could message somebody. There's already a bazillion messaging apps out there and they all support SMS so you can message anyone. The developers focused too much on making this a playground instead of being a functional messaging app.

Not easy to find who online, and who are on allo, and those not on allo app also shown in allo contact,when them send message it's goes like sms. May work on it to make more friendly then only u will get more download.

I don't know why people are all getting their knickers in a twist because there is no SMS support. I feel that messaging world has moved on and it is time to wake up to that fact. Allo works just fine, never crashes on my ageing Nexus 5, it has all the fun features expected from a chat client. For the paranoid types it has incognito mode and if you really have something to hide don't chat about it on the internet. Rating a star less because lack of web client.

Every friend I've texted through this app has no idea who I am because the text is sent through Google servers and shows up as a 5 digit number instead of my number... Why Google, why did you do this? This makes an excellent app completely useless... with no way to back up conversations, no multi-device support, and no integration into duo, allo falls too short to be of any use.

If they really want it to replace Hangouts as a good competator to iMessage it's going to need full sms capibility. We're a year in and still no major updates. One star until improvement. I also advise anyone else who feels the same to drop their rating to promote a change.
