Well, this is a great news reading app that actually lets you choose the news sources (not as Windows News App which trends to show what they want). However, the last update added a separation for local sections and preferential section that does not seem to work if you have already configured too much news sources. Please do not substitute the chosen sources by the local and preferential sources, that won't not improve your app. Moreover, it seems to be requesting for some login while I've already signed. Weird!
I have a LG v20 running Nought. One day the app just stopped being able to connect and retrieve news. The problem with the app has been going on for a while (see other reviews) and even with all those Google Devs it's still a reoccurring problem. I have of course cleared all cache and reinstalled the app but still the same problem. Come on Devs. (The app does works on my tablet so I'm thinking this might have to do with Google and it's Services.) Newest update same problem and no response from Google to acknowledge it.
Although the application works, it doesn't work good. Now my app won't update news. I keep getting an error message about having too many news sections. I deleted some to the point that I have the least I've ever had and I still get the message. Why is there a limit on sections anyway? Wouldn't Google want us to use their app? Surprisingly enough I like more that 12 subjects of the news.
Used to wake up to this app and relied on it for daily news but now I've got an OPPO A57 on Android 6 and the widget can't be resized, so now it's just a tiny widget showing two lines only. What's up with that?! So now I gotta find me another news widget.
The Google News app is designed to show mostly left-leaning (liberal) news sites. For example, today, 7/27/17 at about 4:43pm EDT, the "Top Stories" includes 15 articles. Thirteen are from left-biased and left-center biased news sources (nine of the articles are from either the Washington Post or CNN). Only one article is from a right-center biased news source (New York Post). The problem with this app is that you cannot modify your news sources. Google obviously wants us to read liberal news, so that's what you will mostly see on their app.
So they updated it in a way that now you have to go to your browser to even make out of what the news is about. The update sucked, and yet I know they are not gonna do anything about it. So, why am I saying it? Well, to stop others from making the same mistake I made, and that is to update it.
