Google Voice gives you a phone number for calling, text messaging, and voicemail. It works on smartphones and computers, and syncs across your devices so you can use the app in the office, at home, or on the go.

NOTE: Google Voice only works for personal Google Accounts in the US and Google Workspace accounts in select markets. Text messaging is not supported in all markets.

Keep in mind:
• Google Voice is currently only available in the US. Google Voice for Google Workspace users is available in select countries. Check with your administrator for access.
• Calls made using Google Voice for Android can be placed through a Google Voice access number. All access number based calls use the standard minutes from your cell phone plan and may incur costs (e.g. when traveling internationally).

Ratings and reviews

Great app! I've used it for years now instead of my service provider's features and my phone's installed messaging app. I do wish, however, that... 1- The Contacts would show the full info/profile when you look up a contact, and 2- A text by voice can be initiated when using Android Auto instead of only being able to respond to a text. (THIS would truly eliminate the need to even touch my phone while driving -- which would also eliminate the need for an ugly phone holder.)

It's generally reliable and as good as it gets for a VOIP service. Thank you for the free phone number. Otherwise, I find the interface is too segmented for calls and texting - would be great to see call and text history at the same time. Web Interface is the same, too fragmented. Seems like it is not really improved or "updated" much ...? And, updating contacts must be done outside of the Voice app... It's Very clunky to update or search for contacts.

After 15+ years using this app I still can't set it as my default messenger app. Can anyone shed some light on that. I used to be able to set a custom notification or ring tone, somewhere along the way that feature was removed. Can someone tell me how to set, change, modify, or add a ring / notification tone for incoming messages. Update: Thanks for the fast response but your instructions do not accurately display the features in the app. 'Incoming call notification" does not exist as instructed
