Critical service I use. Been using my Google voice number as my main number since I have more than one phone (iPhone & Android) for 5 years. This service let's me get my calls whichever device I am carrying and even routes calls to Hangouts app on my desktop so I can take calls on my laptop. I understand this app operates in the background since hangouts is the new front facing interface but I certainly hope Google shows this application some much needed attention by updating it. Google please keep this critical service going.
I use Google voice for all my calls and text messaging. I have records of text messages from long ago across several phone providers and I have control of it all. I have several phone numbers that can all answer my GV line. It transcribes my messages and lets me know what the caller wanted without having to listen to every message. Its portable and convenient. If I leave my phone at home I just forward it to what ever is close. It keeps all of my contact information so I don't have to worry about contact
Google voice not integrated well It's huge as Google loves to make all there apps ridiculously large and not moveable to the SD card. I find it odd that Google doesn't take the time to make apps that are compatible with Android products. There is no block call list and even phone calls that are set to not go through do and they get sent to the phone vmail not google.
Pure awesomeness! Used for free texting for a few months as my plan wanted $20 a month for texting. Worked perfectly. My new plan includes texting so I am now using Google Voice along with Hangouts Dialer for free internet calling as a main phone number to give out since we ditched the VOIP service we had. We only ever got robocalls, and I don't want to get them on my cell, so now I have a free calling home number on my Nexus tablet! Works perfectly, couldn't be happier.
My number is also assigned to someone else My Google Voice number has been ringing someone else's phone. They are pretending to be me. I deleted all numbers linked to the forwarding service and nothing has changed. Individual identity, intellectual property, and privacy is still very important to me and always will be. Why do we need voice if we have hangouts or messenger?
Very basic Shows transcriptions that are nearly impossible to understand, and corrections cannot be made from within the app. If you get a lot of hangups (short or zero content recordings) there is no way to mark read or delete in bulk...they have to be handled one by one. There have been no updates to the functionality of this app in well over a year (recent updates are just bug fixes), and at this point I would consider it pretty much abandonware. I expected better from Google...
