Review from Jason Borneman
Great on smartphone, crashes on Nexus 10 tablet I would give this 5 stars, and it's worth 5 stars on my smartphone. But on my new Nexus 10 tablet it continually crashes and restarts and crashes and restarts in a loop. I'd love to have access to my Voice #'s text messaging and voicemails on my tablet.
Hi love the new look, it has great potential to replace the dialer, contacts, sms and voicemail apps which makes me SOO happy, HOWEVER it needs a few things - dialer so you can call people directly from the app -a contacts list that doesnt just add people to text. i'd like to be able to call from the contact list. it is so close to perfect. please please please.
Plus, Google voice app is missing functionality, such as placing a call by selecting the phone line you'd like to use and the phone number you are calling to. But Google voice is unusable with layers themes, and extremely ugly without. And as always, Google's "What's new" on the app's store page is uninformative, like all their other apps' "What's new". Also tapping send feedback in the app does nothing, it just sits there. Not enough date info given in the messages either. Now it's also difficult to quickly find unread messages
5.0 is almost there! I would love to see a fully seamless VOIP solution like Hangouts was, so I can use my GV number on any phone, even my PC through the web client, and access all my voicemail and SMS. The app could use multi-select for messages and voicemails, and I can't seem to actually delete anything in a single-step, only archive then delete. That's rather annoying. Looking forward to seeing how GV evolves in the future!
The new app is a welcome addition but none of the SMS messaging history from hangouts is ported over. It makes no sense for voice to not have access to previous voice messages even if they were sent through hangouts. Lack of direct share is a pretty huge admission at this point as well. Also not getting any notification sounds when messages come in.
Google Voice is one of the best applications I've used. It has all the features I need. And I get my own number that sticks with me forever. Voicemail Transcripts, Recording Phone Calls, International Calling, etc. Good job devs!
Google Voicemail retrieval from the phone's Call Log screen was a great feature that worked perfectly until Android 6 arrived. Thereafter, my Galaxy Note 5's Call Log showed that I had a voicemail, but was unable to retrieve it. Despite the pleas by many to fix this feature, as of the Jan 23, 2017 release of Google Voice, the phone's Call Log screen no longer even shows that a voicemail was received. Google Voice has regressed.
