I'm not sure if this is Google's answer to Apple's iMessage, but it's okay in my opinion. Sending text is simple, it mentions if it is being sent as a SMS or MMS. I wish it was more Instant Messaging like iMessage, but I'm not sure if that is what Google is shooting for (i.e. Hangouts). I'm not sure how my recipients are receiving my photos, but when I send them and preview them in the message thread, they are a bit pixelated which concerns me if that is how they receiving them. My default messenger is LG's stock app, but I switched to this and I currently give it 5 stars. It does pair well with GBoard, I recommend using both. 3/5 Stars.
It's a great SMS app (not instant message like many of the negative comments were looking for). I switched because I had bugs with my deafults Samsung app and this is great it just needs a few touches like the ability to make text bigger by zooming to make it easier for when you don't have glasses on. The colour coding for contacts is great for organising. All the bugs and problems I had went away when I started using Google keyboard.
Been using this app for a couple of months and the only thing I would change about this app is add a preview to links. I love the ability to search for gifs, stickers, and emojis. The ability to send money and gift cards is awesome. Another great Google app! It would make more sense to integrate video calling into this app instead of creating separate apps like Duo & Allo.
UI has been improved. Performance is top notch and the app is overall aesthetically pleasing. Minor bug though, whenever you delete a thread, a weird bar shows up on top of the screen. Also, I just wish emojis were bigger in the text bubbles. I'd get emojis from friends who have iPhones and there's would be decently sized. I'm gay.
Messaging App with no benefit or purpose, wish that it worked like Apple iMessage. There is no option to retain the messages once you wipe the phone. I used it for a short while, lack of back up was a let down, now using Facebook Messenger as the main SMS app. It keeps all messages platform independent unlike the Google Message app.
It was just 2weeks and it was working perfectly fine, but when it surpassed those weeks it just wonked out, it just doesn't work, I tried everything from installing the update to disabling it but it still doesn't work, it just says "message not sent. Phone number formated incorrectly." Please help me out, I bought the phone for me to be able to use it in its full potential and use it like other phones, to text and call but I can't text anymore.
