About this app

Google Messages is the official Google app for messaging. Google Messages is revolutionizing how a billion users connect and is powered by Rich Communication Services (RCS), the industry standard for texting that replaces SMS and MMS. With RCS, you can share high resolution photos and videos, enjoy dynamic group chats, and seamlessly connect with other RCS users including your iPhone friends.

• Rich Communication: Share high-quality photos and videos, see when friends are typing, and enjoy dynamic group chats that now seamlessly include your iPhone friends.
• Personal Touch: Make conversations uniquely yours with features like custom chat bubble colors or fun selfie gifs.
• Privacy Matters: Rest easy knowing your personal chats are protected with end-to-end encryption between Google Messages users, so no one (including Google and third parties) can read or view your messages and attachments except the person you’re messaging. Plus, enjoy advanced spam protection.
• AI-Powered Messaging: Craft the perfect message with Magic Compose suggestions and our latest AI features.
• Seamless Across Devices: Start a chat on your phone and continue it effortlessly on your tablet or computer. The app is also available on Wear OS.

Google Messages is more than just messaging; it's a richer, safer, and more expressive way to connect.

App is also available on Wear OS. Availability of RCS varies by region and carrier and a data plan may be required. Availability of features varies by market and device and sign up for beta testing may be required.

App worked well until the last update. All of a sudden I have to keep turning off my phone because the entire text screen just blanks out and I can't receive or send texts. I can see everyone's texts, but as soon as I click and go send a text, I get a blank screen. Cleared the cache, checked the settings and then decided to come here and see the reviews. Unacceptable Google. I have had all types of phones on both sides of the aisle and never have had problems with my meaning app. Do better.

I like the option for larger text groups. As with most texting apps, you can set custom sounds for notifications. Unfortunately, this app frequently ignores them and uses the default tone. It even ignores a "silent" setting. Google, thank you for the response. I have changed the seeing for customized alerts. the issue is the app changing, or ignoring, my settings, repeatedly.

Hi, Mark. The steps on how to change your ringtone settings may differ depending on the device model and Android version you are using. For more information, it would be best to contact your device manufacturer. Hope this helps!

Update: I had shared that Google messages keeps crashing when sending or receiving multiple pictures or GIFs, or even opening the GIF search. You responded telling me to uninstall and reinstall the app, which is impossible because it is a system app with only the option to disable. I already uninstalled and reinstalled updates though and cleared data and cache for the app, but I found the problem can be temporarily fixed and just resurface in a few days.

Hi, Jeff. Can you try to uninstall and reinstall the Messages app itself? Open the Play Store app > search Messages app > Uninstall > Reinstall/Update.
