No rival. The one and only.
Just auto uploaded all my phone and desktop pics going back years which seems to be great. However after using for a while the app is taking up 580Mb of data storage on my phone. I've cleared the cache and emptied the deleted photos from the app, but still takes 580Mb, not too clever considering it is supposed to store everything in the cloud. Only 3 stars until this is fixed.
I didn't know I had this app pre-installed on my phone until one day just recently I got a notification on my phone that I had a new movie available. I clicked on it because I had no idea what it was about and I was blown away by the movie clips it put together. I had a 90-second movie showing my kids from about the past 2 years, sound from the clips (love hearing their voices from way back), and music in the background! It made me tear up while I sat in my office at work. Made my day. I still watch the same movie about 3 times a day. Lol. I showed the movie to everyone I know. Truly an amazing app. I love it!
I really like this app but I wish albums were better. They're just clunky overall and it would be nice to be able to customize them. Also, it would be so awesome if you could delete photos within the albums. I have large albums and in order for me to delete a picture permanently, I have to search through my extremely large collection of photos to find the ones I want to delete, even though I see them in the album and could just delete it from there if the option was available. It would also be nice to see info on what the updates are for.
Google Photos is a wonderful photo organiser app. Using it on my Pixel 2 XL and loving it. Auto backup option is very useful feature which helps free up space from your phone storage. If you have Google's PhotoScan and Snapseed Apps installed in your phone, you can launch them right from the Photos app. Also, you have the options to crop and add various effects to your photos.
Fantastic app for auto-uploading w *unlimited storage space* as long as you allow them to downgrade to manageable size. You can pay for enough space for storing "original size" images as well, if you are one for printing your images up on large formats. Current ISSUE I would like fixed: since getting a Note 8, the app seems like it will not auto-upload unless I manually open the app to 'wake it.' I think the Note 8's settings are putting the app into a sleep made to reduce background resources - maybe upload bandwidth, or just CPU and RAM usage? I am not sure of the precise actions to put it back to 'normal.' I do not mind if the app is ready to upload as soon as I hit wifi & a charger at the same time. Otherwise this app is wonderful!
