My car broke down in Spain and this app helped me communicate with repair man who came to get us. I have no idea at all how I would have coped without ability for us both to speak into app and have our words translated into the other language. Literally a life saver.

Deceiving but ok It does everything you'd want except for one very BASIC feature: it won't work offline. In earlier versions it did, but for the last 6 months, if I don't have internet I might as well delete the app. Yes, I downloaded all the languages that I was trying to use.

Here is Microsoft win, Microsoft giver its user amazing translate tool apps thay they can use while traveling othere country. Google need to work on, because google translater need to touch mic always for every sentence, so we cant keep phone in pocket wearing headphones. Even google translater not permitted to active mic using headphones button, we cant stop speaker to speak untill mic initialised, 1) i think Google keep mic on default as apps open. Either start mic on headphone button, but with headphone button initialising occur 2) mic have to auto detect language want translate or download language for offline Leaving my primary language i selected. Google translater need to divide this apps in two mode ✓ one word phase transition that is now doing well. ✓ second speech to speech translation ( for that my feedback important)

Surprisingly, Google translate started to produce decent translations into Russian. They make sense and sometimes even stylistically rounded, waaay better than Bing's translations. There are still many instances when a translation can make a lot of fun, but the progress is undeniable. Keep up the good work.

I use this app for translation for Japanese and it won't translate anything anymore! No matter what language I put in I get a "no network" error or the screen buffers forever. Wifi on all my other apps work just fine as well, it is just this one that no longer works!

Why it only shows single meaning of word during offline Search on the contrary online search, a lot. Many words didn't showed their meaning( dictionary downloaded) When I go offline instead of online they really had meaning Otherwise I loved it

This is a simple and yet effective translator to use. I can translate my text in English and it automatically changes to Indonesia. Without having to rewrite the translated Indonesian text, I just copy and paste on my email body. When I received an Indonesian email, I just highlight the text, and press the Google translator icon appears on the screen, the text will automatically moves to the translator, and shows me the English translation. Thanks you Google

Samsung Galaxy S7 - Not perfect or not working? Even though lots of people contribute in making it's translations better and better(myself included), it still has a very bad translation! Make it so that we can add(contribute with) better translations in the Android app too! OR MAKE GOOGLE TRANSLATE AN OPEN SOURCE, LIKE WIKIPEDIA.

This app needs to be 100% for me to give it 5 stars. My wife is from Mexico and she doesn't understand half of what is being translated by you (Google). Please make sure the grammar is correct. You say it works offline, not anymore!

Works ok for a couple of phrases, but after a few responses, it can no longer understand me and totally mis interprets what I say. I can shut it down, then turn it back on and then it will understand me for a few phrases. So, it seems like I need to shut it down after every couple of spoken phrases. Frustrating.

i translated some words into it. but i wanted to check if it made sense and i translated it back to english, using the words it used and i got a bunch of words i never used or placed into that. so i dont know. it didnt work out well.

Helped me in my trip to Spain & France! Wherever i faced difficulty in explaining in english, I typed & translated in Spanish and French. Made things easier. Recommend for using it while travelling to a destination where you don't know the language!

Incredibly useful tool to have, and one I would gladly pay for. My only suggestion would be to consider adding the from/to language toggle arrows to the typing interface as well. I switch back and forth between the two languages to figure out how to say things or to double check myself, so it isn't convenient to have to exit the typing interface each time you want to do so. An alternative would be to allow you to type in either text frame and it automatically translate in the other. Then you could just have a clear or reset (x) button to use before beginning a new phrase.

The actual sentence gets messed up and it does it like one word after the other instead of the whole proper sentence. This even happens in a simple languages from English like Spanish, Dutch and Irish. The sentence structure needs to be fixed, I sometimes had to turn to different apps. PLZ improve. Thanks

Great on wifi! However, doesn't work as stated offline, even with the required language packs downloaded. As other reviewers have said, the app apparently can't find the downloaded language packs, so I'm getting sd card errors and no translations 😒. Samsung s8

Well I just love anything "Google". But for translating is still too far from give you what you really want. But it's better than nothing. For those who said there's no offline translating you should know how to customize your apps first. Thanks google. You just make my life better.

,∆ using Bulgarian and with little knowledge of the syrillic alphabet, my suggestion is to include all three on the list of previous translations or 'favourites' underneath the input box. The pronounciation is VERY IMPORTANT. without it this very useful app is not as helpful as it could be, especially when dealing with an alphabet you have yet to learn . For example.. English .....it is broken Pronounced ...schupeno e Syrillic..............счупено е Currently the pronounciation is not shown, so user has to click on each one to reveal how to say a word? Come on please...,it's difficult learning 'language' without pronounced words isn't it? It's broken счупено е

Recently updated to offline version, when I tried it out (French) it gave a different translation than the online version ????? Most probably means the same, but totally confusing, I mean if I knew wouldn't need this to start with. So how can I be sure I'm actually getting correct translation to start with?? Would like to know why? Before would have given 5*, now can't be sure of correct translation.

I like this app a a lot, the camera feature is pretty neat too.. but I wish the speech-to-text feature was more accurate. It has trouble understanding me when I speak English let alone other languages.

I need to speak with many Islanders but you only have Samoan, what about Tongan, Maori, Hawaiian or even Haitian? Your missing the other languages I need. My relatives come from different islands I want to communicate respectively too reach in their own tongue. I'm disappointed that did many languages common to the main land(USA) are missing. I gave 1 star because at least you had Samoan. I'm uninstalling since the others aren't available.

hello developers.. i have suggestion that will become app better for normal users and who use app every time and edit problems in translation.. I want this app, like desktop or website version, has a editing options and defining improvements for better translation between two languages. And another problem is that speed of connecting to the google server is low and take a time for connecting and receiving translation result in app (app automatically switch to offline translation and force user to refresh or retry several time until app connected to server) .. Please fix this problem

Mostly-completely-useless for Japanese. Screws up context, provides outdated or completely unused words in modern Japanese society. It *can* work utterly brilliantly when translating extremely simple or common questions or phrases, and especially if you include the romaji form of words. For example, the translation of "Can we go to STATION NAME HERE from STATION NAME HERE?" Translates perfectly. Other phrases... Not so much. People with no prior exposure to Japanese should be very careful when using this app, and combine its results with other apps, like VoiceTra and Microsoft Translator.

It's OK, but trying to translate a normal French newspaper story, it makes some daft translations. It is a good pointer as to what it means, but I would not want to have to rely on it being accurate.

Samsung S6 Edge g925F android 7.0 I have big problems to get offline translation. Language keep turning on installation.... Good wifi or 4g no matter. Empty space largely available...

OFF LINE Translate does not works properly, sometimes it does translate, but sometimes NOT, it looks like while internet disconnected it's still waiting for the new internet connection, and thus always wasting our time. It's very annoying !!!!

The best translator by miles and deep learning is making it even better. My one question, why can't the phrasebook be used as a randomized index card app? It seems like a wasted opportunity to do what a host of other apps do better

Google translate is very handy if you are severely dyslexic like me. It can correct your spelling if you are phonetic, it reads out what you've written and it can even read out words from a photograph. It even helped me pass my English exam.

Hi Google! The Google keyboard surpasses all others and is simply the best. Just 1 suggestion though. Try integrating G-Translate and GBoard so that users can instantly get the desired translated versions of their sentences in real time (while actually typing on the keyboard). This would not only enhance user experience but would also increase the app's utilisation as people would be able to send messages in other languages easily and conveniently.

So easy to use and an amazing range of languages. It can scan words and translate it instantly (no Internet required once the desired language is downloaded). It can also translate from speech and of course can translate words and phrases typed in. I thoroughly recommend this app to any tourist visiting another country for none of those embarrassing moments!

Dear lord I just want to say a little prayer in thanks for Google translate...... It's such a freaking important thing that the world didn't used to have..... And even when it was a thing, the ability to take text from a photo was still so unheard of.... It took an hour a sentence just to try and play my game..... And now, without a moments hesitation, I can take any kanji from anywhere just by tapping.... Sometimes I just seriously want to cry in thanks that the world has this.

The app works well but it needs improvement in english to hindi translation and vice versa. Offline translation is good for translating one word from english to hindi and vice versa but offline, it is not able to translate the whole sentence properly (the grammar is very poor in offline translation). Please add a grammar checker too (for both hindi and english).

This is a great App and i gave it 5 stars. However recent uodates made it prefer online transactions (even when offline translations are already downloaded), this makes it slow/hang on unreliable or censored networks. So -2 starts.

I think you need to add chinese Cantonese. The simplified and tradition chinese is difficult to understand and how it pronounce. I'm chinese. My mother is chinese she also said that it put in a difficult way. But overall it a ok a translator app.

This app is in general helpful... Of course not 100% correct. Eg: In French " trousse de toilette" should Not be translated as "toilet seat" in English. It should be "toilet case, toilet bag... "

Very nice! You can take a picture of the words if you don't know the pronunciation, or type it out. However, the translation can get really literal at times...so metaphorical sentences are difficult

I have downloaded the offline packages for the languages i use most. But whenever i search, translate tries to look online first, even if my internet connection is weak. Why not show the offline translations immediately, and add the online ones if/when they come through?

It's good but it can't make perfect sense when translated from one language to other. It just translate every word to other language in same order and sometimes doesn't make sense. Hope that will be improved
