Gboard is awesome! Still lacking Function, CTRL, and ESC keys on the PC layout. A switch to the extra characters would fit nicely under the cog as an option alongside keyboard settings. Prediction is vastly improved - EDIT: This update removes 3rd party keyboard selection, e.g. Hackers Keyboard when long-pressing the spacebar. This behaviour forces the need to open Android settings > Language... to change the current keyboard to the preferred keyboard for a particular task. Please allow 3rd party options in the selection context menu as Gboard has from the start. Thanks!
It needs the ability to be moved to an SD card. If you have multiple languages set up, those dictionaries install automatically (whether you want them to or not) and it takes up a lot of space, 109mb in my case. EDIT: Just three days after this review, the app's size has shot up to 188mb.
Ever since the latest update, every function had stopped working properly. Even when turning it off then on again, glide typing doesn't work. Same for auto correct and weird suggestions. Nothing is being corrected and the suggestion box is empty. Not to mention that now, the sideways keyboard now takes up an additional 1/4 of the screen, and I have found no options to modify this. In short, I'll be waiting on a fix until all these issues are fixed.
It was great, and I love the keyboard but on Google Hangouts, the enter key has once again become an emoji key. That isn't necessary because there is already an emoji key. Can you please fix this? The point of this keyboard is speed and it slows me down to have to go into the symbols menu to press enter or long press to get to enter.
The autocorrect is trying to be too smart. It will change the word *before* the one I am typing, if it thinks based on what I am currently typing that some other previous word would have been better. It especially has trouble with "of" and "or" and "it". Whenever I type something, I have to go back and check the keyboard's work. But I can't turn off autocorrect because I need it for the current word.
I love it so far but what bothers me after switching from another very popular keyboard is the fact that autocorrect struggles to understand what I'm trying to type when I'm pressing the buttons instead of swiping. Sometimes it's easier and quicker to just press a bunch of buttons and have the algorithm do the work for you. Swiping requires you to be a bit more precise for the prediction algorithm to make sense of whatever you're trying to say but it's also slower. So basically in the future I'm hoping to see improvements regarding prediction accuracy
