First sms was unthreaded from Google voice and Hangouts chat. Now sms support was removed altogether. I don't want to use four different apps for chat (Hangouts, Allo, Duo, Messages). This is the kind of stuff that has me looking at switching to Apple, iMessage works great and is exactly the type of messaging app I'm looking for.

Hangouts is useful, but keep an eye on him!! As at times his behaviors can be erratic?? Which if some twisted person wanted, they could gain access to your info via sim. Just be safe and keep an eye on his behavior.. like strange picture, screen shots, files, etc.. be careful and practice safe text!! Remember always wear a sim lock. Lol.

Used to be the best messaging app around for Google users. You had SMS, MMS, hangouts messages, and Google Voice all seamlessly bundled together. Now Google has decided to flat out remove functionality with no alternative. First they unthreaded SMS and GV. Now they've removed SMS completely. Just all around anti-consumer. Terrible move Google. Get your stuff together and make a single messaging app. Stop fragmenting everything to the point of uselessness and obscurity.

My phone has been weird ever since i updated this... not sure who to blame google or verizon. This app has annoying notifications. Making it sort of hit or miss. If I never use something, not even ONCE?! why would I carry that thing around with me wherever I go, constantly... Useless garbage.

Removing SMS support was the death of this app. Why Google!?! Why can't we just have something that functions like iMessenger? It's annoying to have to use three different apps for communication (Allo, Messenger, Duo). Why would you remove functionality?

Pre installed garbage I can't uninstall without rooting my phone thus voiding the warranty. I've never used it and I never will just like all the other pre installed junk. It's sad when a company has to pay Verizon/art/ECT to force people to download their trash app. I would give 0* but it won't let me.

Doesn't work with the Pixel, cannot listen to messages, get an error with every single one. Google apparently hasn't corrected this issue on the app for years and seems to have no interest in doing so. Very frustrating that a Google app will not work on a Google phone.

I was really surprised by how simplistic this app is to use and how well it works in order to stay in contact with everyone. It has several purposes and is very useful. It is very quick and discrete. I have used this app for a long time transferring from one smart phone to another and I will continue to use this app due to its dependability.

I love the features and the calls were terrific for Google Voice until Lollipop. Now the app sends to get killed in the background and unless I have it open or have just opened it in the last few minutes, I can only use it to retrieve voicemail and return calls. It was prefect for my needs when it worked full time.

Google, please don't drop Hangouts! I have multiple Android devices... some just sit in the other room for when I need Google - my phone isn't always on me when I'm at home. Hangouts is great because I can continue/start a conversation between my Android devices, Windows or Mac. Allo/Duo is tied to a phone no. And there is no way to use them on my Windows or Mac. Uninstalled Allo/Duo... they are of no use at all. EDIT: now less useful as Hangouts has dropped SMS support and I have to use another messaging app. Google - where are you going with 4-5 different messaging apps?

What a pile of garbage. Now I get a banner on anyone not on my domain.... Time to dump Hangouts.. Google is so stupid when it comes to messaging platforms.. maybe we'll get 5 more in 2017. None of them connected to properly featured.

Google only seems to make half baked apps. This was a 4 star app before Google removed the ability to do text messaging in this app as well. Trying to push users to go to Allow when this worked great. Makes me regret buying a Pixel and supporting Gaggle.

Just received messages from 4 days ago (with no issues from cell service or wifi). Unacceptable. Replies sent via notifications haven't been sending sometimes, as well.

I used to use this app for free texting and video and phone calls as Verizon unlimited plan holdout. Now I have unlimited everything and the app removed SMS messages, so I no longer have any use from it in the diluted mess of Google Apps offering messenging/video/texting.

After recent update there is a notification​ at the top of the chat "user is outside domain". I pressed ok but it still comes back every time I open it. Very annoying!

It's trying to do much and really doesn't succeed. It is messy and fragmented. Google chat from years ago did things I want much better. I've never known an app to go backwards so successfully!

Used this app for SMS the past 3 years. Now they've removed the only feature I used, making the app worthless. Great idea Google.

Rather nice experience using it. interface is solid and more than usable. I would like to see more features added in the future. Only concerns is that sometimes, the software can become unstable under heavy load.

This app used to be great until you could no longer combined sms and hangout messages in the same conversation. It was annoying to have two conversations with one person, but I still enjoyed using it. Now that sms support has been removed I have no reason to open this anymore.

It's a dead app walking, as they keep removing features it's difficult to know what on earth Google are doing with their confused messaging strategy. May as well just kill it off now.

You still can't search your conversation history, not even in the Gmail app. You have to search on the desktop version for this. Hangouts is also still extremely laggy, and contact photos occasionally disappear unless I leave and reenter a conversation. Photos take forever to change to full resolution when viewing them in a conversation. And just like that, Google somehow made it even worse by getting rid of combined SMS conversations, arguably the ONE good feature this garbage had going for it.

Very good. Ive been using this app since my grandma got me my tablet. (Which was 2014 or 2015 chrismas) I can talk to my grandma easily with hangouts. Im very pleased with your creation. I also talk to my grandpa on the same account that I talk to my grandma with. Im 9 years old and still very happy with your company.🚹🚹 Keep up the good work! 🗽✔💜💋💎(>^ω^<)

Text message are limited on length of message. Keep cutting off long messages. Would be nice of this was fixed ASAP, also there is no way to set Hangouts as default messanger app on my phone.

My data plan sucks so i cant afford to have LTL on at all times. This means any of my contacts who made Hangouts default can't send msgs that i'll receive unless i'm home. If u have a good plan then i'd imagine this wud be a good app for u.

SMS Still works with project fi.. altho you REALLY have to look into the forums to read the posts, if u don't go into account settings and turn on the default as Hangouts you'll get that obnoxious banner, they really don't seem to want to let us in on what's going​ on? I have to investigate on how to get the service I pay for to work for me, shady at best, sorry that's my opinion about the app.

Well I hope you are of following bug in app. I tried to send a video to a friend but then cancelled the upload as it was taking too much time due to its size. After cancelling video was removed from chat window but I could see upload still happening as my data was being used. Only I after I force close the app the data usage stopped.

~ PRIORITY 0 FEATURE, AS THIS WILL GIVE EDGE OVER WHATSAPP HEAVY DATA SHARING. ✓ Instant sharing of pics from Google photos via hangouts is extremely appreciated as it save me a tonnes of data and is instant as it goes from Google data center (Google cloud) to other person mobile. (as all pics and videos will be in Google cloud for majority of population) × Hangouts without Google drive integration is just a garbage !! Need feature to share pics and videos from Google Drive via hangouts same way like the Google photos are sent. The only reason I keep files in Google drive is to use it via hangouts and gmail to avoid uploading from my super slow 0.5 Mbps PAID connection !! Point is sending photos from Google Drive via Hangouts to a friend it should go from Google Cloud to friends Hangouts rather than consuming my phone data. That's is don't consume my data while sharing pictures of videos from Google photos on Google Drive via Hangouts. Last but not least have the courtesy of notifying the person who commented or notified you about the feature request or bug, No email or any means so that they will be inclined to help Google in future with sense if satisfication. That is, makes sure to create a ticket for the feature request for the user who commented or mailed, And notify them once the future is rolled out via update to the user.

I don't even want this app, but it was automatically downloaded into my phone! That's gotta mean that I can't uninstall it or something can happen to my phone. :-(

I really loved this app, since it let you keep your email messages and your phone number texting all in one place, but now since they've taken out phone number texting it's kind of meh, I honestly don't know why they would take that out of the app, it was so convenient before but now I have to use two different messaging apps

Why are you ruining this amazing app? Was the best, and 4 stars, just needed a couple small improvements and it would've been Android's answer to iMessage. Instead you're removing useful features. And what kind of slow, learning disabled people are you surveying? Merged messages are confusing for them. Haha. Must be iOS users? Seriously, bring back sms and merged messages. Both optional, these slow people could turn them off. Stop forcing lame Google Messages on us, it sucks. Only does SMS. I won't use it or Allo until they offer the same features as Hangouts...Can't wait to watch Allo/Duo flop (and they did, too. DOA, total flops. No one uses them. I can't pay anyone to even consider using them...please Google, give us sms integration in Google Stickers... Err, I mean Google allo)

It was a lot more useful when it could be used for SMS. Now I use a non-Google app for SMS, so I'm not sure what the plan was but doesn't make sense to me. Overall still a good app, but gets a lot less use now.

Kind of buggy, it will say people are online when they're really not there in group chats. My main issue is with privacy. There is no setting to turn this feature off. Any picture I send will be saved to Google photos. It's creepy and I've tried everything to turn it off. This is the reason why I stopped using this app a lot. I only use it for a group chat. Which isn't often.

Usless since removal of SMS support, now need three separate apps for text, Google voice and hangout calls. Dumb move.

I didn't have any arms and my dad was dieing.useing his last breath he told me to install this app.I did and I grew two arms out of my but and my dad came back to life.

Been using it for a while. Works well in all respects but removing SMS is a reminder that Google doesn't work for users, but for their strategy. We'll, there's whatsapp

The app is good, but can you guys add the old design back? Like a new feature to go back to the old design, plus if you guys ever use my idea, i'll give you five stars for sure, but please make this a feature, also do the same with Google+

Used to be my preferred messaging app since it allowed merging sms and messages in one app. Massive downgrade when they removed merge. Rendered entirely useless with removal of sms as of May 2017.

Used to be great but Google's decision to splinter their messaging offering means that this is now a terrible product. Allo, Duo, and Messenger all need to be a single, unified messaging experience.

Why. Why why WHY do I still have to be told SMS is moving out of Hangouts. I'm a Google Voice user. This isn't true for me, and I can't get rid of this effing message. Google. If you don't want non-Enterprise users using HANGOUTS, tell us.
