I love Hangouts! Needless to say, I was relieved that my Google Voice number allowed me to avoid the latest changes which revoked the option to use Hangouts as the default SMS app on android. But, I still got the prompt to switch and got impatient with it being on screen; when the chambers change didn't apply to my situation. I finally tapped that option thinking that but it resulted in me not being able to set it as default SMS despite still having the ability to send SMS. Today, I signed out of the app, uninstalled it's updates, deleted the data left in Settings>Applications Manager>Hangouts, updated, opened, signed in, personalized the settings and viola! Hooray for me! Update: The Annoying prompt is back. "SMS is moving out of Hangouts - Google Voice texting will still be available in Hangouts etc..." Exactly, that's why I'm still using it. Why won't this inapplicable prompt stop littering the text tab of GV users?
The app is so useful that Google is trying to kill it. You get free calls to and from real cell numbers over WiFi, porting to Google voice. With a data Sim that gives free cell service, less the cost of data. They can't unravel this loophole, so they slowly remove features to try to kill the apps popularity, until they will finally close off this feature once and for all. With 1 billion+ downloads, why would any company intentionally destroy an app? Because it is not cost effective to have users continue using this app. All updates to this app slowly destroy it's functionality...intentionally. I will use this app until it dies, because it is still cost effective for my family, but I would not recommend it's use because it is a temporary app, at best.
I love this app. I do not have a phone and I was trying to find ways to text friends and family without a number. I tried numerous apps that just weren't cutting it. My friend introduced this app to me and I didn't even realize that it was built in to my Samsung tablet. I use this app pretty much every day. The only thing that could make it better in my opinion is if there could be a walkie talkie mode on it. I've been trying to find walkie talkie apps and none of them really work for a tablet. Even the ones that do actually work have extremely bad quality. I'm sure if the app had a walkie talkie on it that it would be even better.
PLEASE FIX THE NOTIFICATION BUG. I am not getting any notifications 90% of the time. It's super hit or miss. This app used to be perfect and way better for video chat and calls than skype or any other platform. After the new update everything has gone downhill. Me and my girlfriend started using another app because of this. If it gets fixed we'd come back in a heartbeat. Like, geez. Please fix it and I'll give the app the higher rating I had before.
Okay, this may be my third time I had to find a way to communicate with you guys since no one has responded to my Help/feedback (I'm not sure if that's how it works). I'll go straight to the point. Their seemed to be a error: couldn't create conversation. My friend recently got a new phone (which is in the Samsung family), and I'm using a ASUS tablet. Could it be because her device has some qualities, that my device isn't up to standards to? I still had the same device, and she had a phone (which was still in the Samsung family), and we were able to communicate well, I forgot to say that this was before she got her new phone. ~Not a review
Why are you ruining this amazing app? Was the best, and 4 stars, just needed a couple small improvements and it would've been Android's answer to iMessage. Instead you're removing useful features. And what kind of slow, learning disabled people are you surveying? Merged messages are confusing for them. Haha. Must be iOS users? Seriously, bring back sms and merged messages. Both optional, these slow people could turn them off. Stop forcing lame Google Messages on us, it sucks. Only does SMS. I won't use it or Allo until they offer the same features as Hangouts...Can't wait to watch Allo/Duo flop (and they did, too. DOA, total flops. No one uses them. I can't pay anyone to even consider using them...please Google, give us sms integration in Google Stickers... Err, I mean Google allo)
