Google has a real problem. Some of the brightest minds and yet they continue to think that adding more apps that do similar things, reducing feature sets, and rebranding is a good idea. Further saturating the apps the number of apps we need to keep up with. This app is a perfect example.
Hey G, make the apps better (quality not numbers) & make Google Voice, Hangouts & Project Fi a one app that works great for all the people, not only US citizens.
For almost everything it did the job. Liked the material redesign. I had a problem for a year (2013-14). I eventually managed to fix it myself (revert to original and reinstall), but never heard once from Google, despite sending huge amounts of feedback from: crashes, failed texts, failed receiving of texts... the list goes on! Hate the removal of merged conversations.
I used to really like hangouts. It was my default messaging app. Now, I'm really disappointed that they've removed the ability to merge hangout and SMS messages. This was a main feature that kept me using the app.
No idea about Google messaging strategy. Now hangouts will no longer work with SMS, and its functions split into Messages and Duo(?). Just pick an app and make it work instead of all these diversions.
It's a shame that hangout is stopping the SMS integration. I personally prefer messaging app that can integrate more messaging accounts so that my phone can run less PPS efficiently
