I signed up for a Google Voice number in 2012. I liked the idea of a free permanent phone/sms number regardless of cell provider or location. 5 years later, this is my goto sms app since everybody knows my Google Voice number. I can look back at all the history of the calls and texts since then. I don't know any other app that can do that. So Google knows virtually everything I said via text or wifi call for the last 5 years. Well played, Google...well played.
SMS/MMS? Kind of. No support for text services, like Celly IM? ✔️. Solid UI? Kind of. It needs the new bottom row navigation to be Material Design compliant. VOIP calling? ✔️. Fast navigation? Not anymore. Admin rights in group chats? ✔️Video Calling? Yes, but terrible quality from the mobile app. Animated GIF support? SOME of the time. The app STILL doesn't load links all the time using the Android share feature. STILL!! Come on, Google. 😒
The texting portion of the app is great, and having one number that follows you regardless of carrier is fantastic. My biggest issue with hangouts has always been the dialer, volume control when engaged in a call doesn't work. Setting the volume before you make the call is a work around, but adds a somewhat annoying step to remember.
Love the app. Only thing I don't like and I've noticed for a couple months is that it shows ppl currently on there phone, icon is always on next to their name even when said person hasn't been on in hours. It used to only appear when they were using their device or on hangouts app but now it just stays on. Any idea why or if this bug will be fixed?
Can't see anybody's complete status. Fix this. Two requests: 1. I would love if I could send voice notes 2. Please, please let me see if a person is online or not. Don't just show 'Last seen just now' for 15 minutes. If a minute has passed after the person has exited the app, it should show 'Last seen 1m ago'. Please amend!
Very limited app. Main issue for me is that when I have let's say 20 new messages in a group, it will not open up at the first unread message, but rather at the bottom end. Silly.
