Big step back from Google Talk. Message delivery is unreliable, app is slow and XMPP is no longer supported.
Still can't merge Hangouts & SMS WAS my go to app for all messages, however, only after updating will you realise that merging of SMS and Hangouts chats are no longer supported. It would have been nice to tell me before I upgraded in the release notes. I don't need 3+ apps to communicate, I want one communication platform. Bring back merged conversations please.
Currently Google's best messaging app With the ability to roll sms threads into the app, as well as video call with PCs and other phones, hangouts is the best all around solution for messaging. The only complaint I have is that SMS is not mirrored to the desktop client or website. Even with that issue it far surpasses allo and duo. Messenger is nice but can only handle SMS.
Great IM App! Great app. Having some ani-gif/video show processing and it never finishes... Having major delays having app display a sent pict in full screen. Shows teal colored load bar when I click on some picts in hangout chat and never loads pict. Sometimes I have to do it several times before it works. Sending a live video seems to work well.
Missing some key features What it does, it does well. Love having a gallery of pictures from the hangout, and the video calls work okay. It's made improvements but it's still pretty slim on features compared to GroupMe or Facebook Messenger. Most importantly, if they want to merge Hangouts and Google Voice, it needs to add/retain the search feature the standalone Voice app has. This has been a problem since day 1 and it still hasn't been touched. A Google app without any kind of search. Think about that for a second.
Why remove features.. bring back merged conversation Used to be my goto apk for messaging I for the life of me can't understand why remove any feature. I loved the fact that I could keep one conversation acrossed my hangouts Google voice and sms all seemly together. With the latest update downgrading that feature that I'm sure most people didn't take the time to even setup or know existed doesn't make sense to me. The feature was all ready developed so why remove it... Bring back merged conversation
