Hangouts was the one goto "killer app" on Android. It integrated video calling, voice and all forms of text messaging. Now some idiot decided to peel out SMS texting again. MASSIVE step backwards, idiots. Now I'm missing messages, don't know what app to use for who. What moron came up with that idea? This after they ruined Google wallet with similar moves. Take something fabulous, tear it apart and call it an improvement. What's next? Taking weeks out of the calendar and making a week app? Update: New forced update completely ripped out SMS now. F U Google.
The app is so useful that Google is trying to kill it. You get free calls to and from real cell numbers over WiFi, porting to Google voice. With a data Sim that gives free cell service, less the cost of data. They can't unravel this loophole, so they slowly remove features to try to kill the apps popularity, until they will finally close off this feature once and for all. With 1 billion+ downloads, why would any company intentionally destroy an app? Because it is not cost effective to have users continue using this app. All updates to this app slowly destroy it's functionality...intentionally. I will use this app until it dies, because it is still cost effective for my family, but I would not recommend it's use because it is a temporary app, at best.
Hangouts is useful, but keep an eye on him!! As at times his behaviors can be erratic?? Which if some twisted person wanted, they could gain access to your info via sim. Just be safe and keep an eye on his behavior.. like strange picture, screen shots, files, etc.. be careful and practice safe text!! Remember always wear a sim lock. Lol.
Okay, this may be my third time I had to find a way to communicate with you guys since no one has responded to my Help/feedback (I'm not sure if that's how it works). I'll go straight to the point. Their seemed to be a error: couldn't create conversation. My friend recently got a new phone (which is in the Samsung family), and I'm using a ASUS tablet. Could it be because her device has some qualities, that my device isn't up to standards to? I still had the same device, and she had a phone (which was still in the Samsung family), and we were able to communicate well, I forgot to say that this was before she got her new phone. ~Not a review
Facebook Messenger allows you to hide message previews in the notification tray where is anybody who picks up your phone can read the message you just received in your notification tray because there's no way to just say one new Hangouts message and respect people's privacy because Google doesn't like your privacy. Incoming calls are disabled by default so you have to remember to go into settings and enable them or people will try to call you and it will just keep ringing and nobody will ever figure out why
I've used hangouts since they forced the switch. It used to be the case that it required a solid 4-7 seconds to load before you could type a new message, but they fixed that bug (after ~6 months?) woohoo! The latest bug is that messages just refuse to send until I copy their text to my clipboard, click "don't send", then send new ones with the copied text in their place. One time, I had to restart my phone (Pixel) to get Hangouts to function properly again. The alternative is clearing the app's cache. Woot, the app thinks I'm a brand new user every day. It simply doesn't work on my Pixel. I'm actively looking for an alternative. Bummer.
