No, location is not needed App no longer works with knowing your location. Why does a remote control need to know GPS coordinates? The time is right to drop the Google TVs, Android TVs, and Chromecasts and use the $6 - $10 Orange Pi devices. They're full featured and actually work on real networks. Google, stop trying to sneak the location permission in everywhere. As well, stop trying to get us to map out wifi ssid strings for YOUR BENEFIT.
Location permission After last update, this app demands access to location when you open it... Deny and the app won't run, closes and won't let you use it. Why? I've been using this app for close to 2yrs and it worked fine without it before. Why does this app need constant access to my location, to control a nexus player sitting 10ft away from me in the same room? What's new description claims visual refresh, but it looks exactly the same, the unreasonable location demand is the only noticeable new addition.
Needs more features Notification controls would be good, for playing and pausing, and a Quick Reply button so I can type without opening the app. Speaking of typing, keyboard entry is almost always broken when using with my Shield TV. The cursor will lose its place, get confused about what I'm going, etc. I can't use it reliably, and end up using the on-screen keyboard instead out of frustration. I can't paste, either.
Doesn't connect - Makes it Useless I have a Pixel XL and a Shield TV. Running the latest software versions on both and this app still doesn't work. I select the shield device to connect and it just refreshes without connecting. When I got the app to work months ago it was functional but harder to use than the physical remote.
Useless Catch 22. You can only enter your network pin on the smart TV using your mobile device, but you need to sync this app via WiFi before you can use it.
Useful The ability to use my phone's keyboard instead of the Android TV on-screen keyboard makes this app worth having. Not perfect though, pasting into the text box doesn't work for some reason.
