The update is a fail. Features such as altitude are no longer there, replaced by a "projects" interface that makes navigation more difficult and takes up screen space. The projects feature is something I do not want, but it is featured so prominently that it's practically taken over the app. So, to summarize, they have taken away features that I liked and forced some new feature that I hate and cannot remove. This is unfortunately typical for the developers at Google these days. Desperation.

Obviously, the "go-to" for the vast majority of people. In terms of standing for map apps, it's among the best. However, along with any and all other map applications/programs you might use, it's depiction of our world is potentially questionable in comparison to the reality of the situation. Additionally, there are many places where the images are of poor quality or seem deliberately obscured often where much curiosity and human interest lies, doubtful by coincidence.

Update! Not good! I have read a lot of recent reviews, seems like they are mostly negative. I would agree! You used to be able to select your unit of measure, then bigin moving the map around and simultaneously see the measurement changing as you move the map. Now you have to select a point before viewing the distance. Please correct this. And PLEASE, when something is not broken, don't try to fix it! I enjoyed the app before this recent change.
