Interesting Just experimenting so early days. It does hold a lot of promise and after I/O 2016 I've got a lot to look forwards to. A few things could be improved. There's not a lot of literature on how to best use it. You need to fully rotate the headset to go "Back" and not all Bluetooth accessories are of any use at all. As a debut/toe dip it is great fun.
Best option out there for all VR needs I would really like to give this a 5 star rating, but it needs one more feature. It needs to be easily controlled with a Bluetooth remote or gamepad. Not all viewers have the magnet functionality, and sometimes even that isn't very reliable. Having the ability to navigate menus, calibrate, etc with a controller would increase the functionality drastically. Then you could easily transition to watching movies, playing games, etc.
I have the new **GOOGLE** Pixel 2 XL and I cannot utilize this with my VR. I don't have buttons, or anything, to push on to select something during the VR. It requires me to tap on the screen to select something. It doesn't make sense, Google needs to consider their own phones. I was hoping to just hover over an item while viewing to select it, nope. I can't change it in settings either. Main menu looks cool, but other than that it is useless for me.
Lots of missing features Landscape view, configurable BT controller support, fully adjustable cardboard viewing parameters, gyroscope calibration or better drift compensation (use compass!), UI adjustments such as 'point to select time', rotational multiplier so you don't need to twist your head off, standardise start and end procedure (when the user first puts on or removes their headset), optionally use the accelerometer to determine automatically if the headset has been placed or removed. I could go on!
It's pretty cool It's a cool idea. But I feel like I'm looking at a world in tunnel vision. Or like I'm looking at an elephant with binoculars at point blank to try and admire it's beauty. I can see it, but only in sections. It just doesn't give that full immersion wrap around feeling that other virtual reality systems give you. I would really like to see something like a 3D phone, sort of the way Nintendo did the 3DS with an inward 3D view. That would be wicked cool. But I do love the direction this tech is heading in. 👍
I liked it at first, but I find the screen to be too bright and there is no way to change this. My eyes tire quickly and I have to stop after a few minutes. Also, my phone heats up and the battery drains at an alarming rate. I might change my rating if the app is fixed. After all, it is still the best VR experience at this price point. Well, the only VR platform at this price point, actually.
