Still new to app so haven't committed to subscription yet, however this does not stop me having access to the variety of areas avaliable, tweaking my home screen to my preferences including in depth articles and opinions. Congratulations The Guardian for a fine news app that is free with the option to support or subscribe as wallets allow Update: been using for a few months now and decided to become subscriber, feel the variety of news, views and opinions encourage personal reflection and pointers for debate with family and friends....plus I'm beginning to get the crosswords done! 😉😀
The Guardian is my most trusted news source. I'm an opinion junkie. NY times, Wapo ok but the Guardian long read is my favorite. What I don't like about many of the newspaper apps, especially the Wapo app is it's nothing like a newspaper. The Guardian you get a sense it's newspaper connected. Easy to thumb through and check out the various stories.
The content is good. Three cheers for real journalism! (And there's a comforting sense of nostalgia to see the Grauniad is still copy-editorially challenged even in this day and age.) Am subscribing to support, and to avoid ads. Could do without the comment trolls. App works well in its current form. A little while back I ran into a problem - it wasn't possible to 'like' or comment. The solution was to remove the app and reinstall a clean version. Worked perfectly and I kept my bookmarked articles. Using with Android tablet and smartphone. ADDED 15/11/17: Still only 4*. Latest upgrade required a fresh install to work since when the app SOMETIMES forgets I'm a subscriber and asks for my support. It hasn't yet served any ads though, for which I'm grateful.
Great news, but irritating that it often refreshes itself and I lose my place. I'm reading an article, the screen turns off and when I turn it back on, the app is back on the main screen. Can't it hold my place? Especially bad when it hides an article I've clicked into.
Like the content but: 1. Can't log in as a print subscriber. Don't appreciate nags when I'm already paying. 2. Can't remove items from my homepage since latest update, just get a mess "you are already logged in".
Most news apps are clunky and under featured but it is clear that this application had a lot of work out into it. Needs to be better sharing tools though.
