Why oh why change an aesthetically pleasing and easy to read layout to this new one? It's hard on the eye, deeply unpleasant and appears to have been designed by someone with no design ability or understanding of aesthetics. Did you actually do proper research into how this would be received? The 'new & improved' Coca Cola recipe fiasco springs to mind. Why break what doesn't need fixing?
From 5 stars to 1. I tried to stay open minded as change is part of life. But this app redesign doesn't work. The new colours simply ruin it (and I'm known for liking my bold and my garish). The old colours and font worked so well. It used to be one of the nicest looking apps and pleasure to read. No more.
The Guardian is an excellent source of news and I find its reporting a cut above the rest. As for the app - a very nice redesign. It's very different so might take some getting used to but first impression for me is very good. One problem though - I can't see what I'm writing when commenting. The comments post fine but have to be edited "blind".
Absolutely appaling. Blue was the colour. What on earth is this nasty crazy red and black all about. Who on earth gave you good feedback on that to actually go ahead with it. Seriously have been put off looking at it. Black font horrendous. Just like everybody else. Except this is worse. Back to blue. May have to delete app as it's too stressful to read.
It's old fashioned & looks like the Times! The new font doesn't work well on black & white, it's very stark and not nice to read. I prefered the blue colour scheme and the sans serif fonts. I thought the update would be more progressive and modern. Perhaps you could give the readers the option to change the background colour when reading - this format is not going to be pleasant for Dyslexic readers! I loved the previous Guardian app but may have to uninstall as it hurts my eyes to read anything. If it is a ploy to get us to read actual newspapers this might just work!
The new look app just does not work for me - aesthetics and readability. Will have to use a 3rd party app to access The Guardian now unless they allow users to choose which style they prefer or revert to pervious version. It pains me to leave the review as I'm a die hard Guardianista but the app redesign was unnecessary, unexpected and not fit for purpose.
Version 5.0, a brand new look for the app to coincide with the launch of the new Guardian newspaper in the tabloid format.
