Now you can enjoy a leisurely stroll on the Moon without leaving the comfort of your home. The Space Vacation app from the Intergalactic Travel Bureau lets anyone visit space from their living room.
From the Intergalactic Travel Bureau virtual office, visitors can launch VR experiences to see the historic Apollo footprints on the Moon, fly over Mars’s Mariner Valley, or view the geysers of Jupiter’s moon Europa. The Moon will be available first, on June 1st, followed by Mars several weeks later, and then Europa!
The app uses real NASA data to transport intrepid holiday travelers to other worlds. This is one of the most accurate VR apps out there that visualizes 3D alien landscapes from the latest scientific space missions.
This is a virtual extension of the Intergalactic Travel Bureau—a reality-bending agency where vacationing in space is a commonplace occurrence. The live, interactive experience brings together space scientists, astronomers, science educators, actors and the general public to explore the incredible possibilities of space tourism. Since 2011 it has served thousands of satisfied clients across the U.K. and U.S., popping up in public spaces in New York and San Francisco, and London.
This app is made possible by Science Sandbox, a Simons Foundation initiative dedicated to engaging everyone with the process of science.
NOTE: This app requires a VR viewer with an action button. Many Google cardboard viewers have one, as does the ViewMaster VR viewer.
